Broke 5th metatarsal-Jones fracture

I've never broken a bone before I am an active 28 y/o female, i was dancing down the hallway just being funny, heard a crack and fell to the floor. i couldnt put any pressure on it, i iced it overnight and elevated it. The next day it was swollen and still couldnt put any pressure on it so we went to urgent care, i broke my fifth metatarsal at the base, they didnt call it a jones fracture but after researching I believe it is. Its been 6 days non weight bearing ive been using a knee scooter the urgent care gave me a stiff soled shoe to wear and expected it to heal within 4-6 weeks. ive been icing elevating and compressing it avidly, my follow up isnt until week 3. i have a aircast walking boot for when i feel like i can start walking. im trying to heal this as quickly as i can because i do not have medical insurance. Im hoping my pcp on week 3 will release me to light duty and im hoping to walk by week 2! I am struggling with missing work. Ive started to take vitamins and have been very mindful of what nutrition ive been eating!

Greetings, I also broke my 5th metatarsal on my right foot. I was walking down 2 steps from one room to another lower level room. My ankle twisted and I fell. I also iced, elevated, and rested my ankle. The next day it was still swollen but it did not hurt to walk on it. A week later I went to an orthopedist because although I was doing normal activities without pain my ankle was still swollen. I was shocked to learn that I had broken my little toe and even more shocked to learn that I was to be put into a non weight bearing cast from my toes to my knee for 4 weeks and had to use a knee scooter. I couldn't drive. ugh. After the 4 weeks I was put into a aircast walking boot that I had to wear 24 hours a day. Pillow case over the boot to sleep. BTW the boot killed me and I wanted my cast back. It hurt so much I couldn't sleep at night. I solved that problem by not wearing the hard plastic front boot cover and not strapping the boot on sooo tightly. I was also using a 4 wheeled walker because they didn't want me to fall again and break something else. I was in my 60's.Next came an ankle brace contraption that took written instructions to put on correctly and could be tightened by turning a dial on the front. I don't know what kind of work that you do but if the break had been on my left foot so that I could drive I think I would have been doing just about everything that I did before I fell except going to my step aerobic exercise classes. I wish you the best of luck with your complete recovery. In a year this all should be a vague memory for you.
