I have several screws and long screw going through back of my ankle
The long screw is being removed in January
I cant feel the screws
I broke my ankle in 3 places in July
My options were surgery or cast for 8 weeks with no guarantee the bones would heal or align properly
The surgery enabled me to get out of cast after 4 weeks and go into a boot with partial weight bearing, 7 weeks FWB with crutched
PT followed and by mid September I was walking in boot no crutches and soon after in sneakers
The surgery was trouble free for me
I will tell you the first month after surgery is annoying Can get depressed
Its hard to go from very active lifestyle to having to depend on others
Good luck!

Hello. I broke my tibia and fib 11/17. I had surgery the same night. I didn't have a clean break. I have a friend that did the same thing and had plates and screws. she didn't/ don't feel anything. Well I had mine removed 11/19. I had so much swelling for 2 years. My incision even opened back up because of the swelling. Now I have the hardware out....I'm still on the fence about it. I feel like I did it for nothing. In my case , I swell. Good luck with ur procedure.

I broke my tib/fib on Valentine 's Day 2019. It's been a struggle. I was very active before this and hope to be soon. I had my surgery one week after the accident. The doctor had to wait for swelling to go down. I was told it would take a year to recover so I'm right on target. I hope I don't have to remove screws and plate. More surgery and pt!
