Hey there guys im new to the fourms, wanting to seek some of your guys opinion. So on december 14, 2015 i broke my left foot 5th metatrsal playing soccer. Doctor said i have a jones fracture, so i wore i cast for 6 weeks and then the boot of another 3. I was on crutches the whole time not putting any weight on my foot. After 9 weeks my bone still has not healed. So i had to wait 3 weeks in order to put a request for a bone stimulator. On week 14 of being on crutches i recieve the bone stimulator. I have been using the bone stimulator for 32 days 10 hours a day. Wednesday this week is when i am getting my xrays too see if my bone has healed. My question is what should i expect on terms of recovery? My soccer season starts on August 1st, what are my chance on being in full form by then. Just putting out there im going to work my self to the bone to do all i can for a good healthy recovery.

I went down the same road but with a hand fracture this year. I also had gotten a bone growth stimulator and I was not healing at all it was about 16 weeks into break when I got mine and I got X-rays 24 days after use and the doctor could not believe how much better it was. It was not fully recovered though it took about 32 week total for my bone to heal. Mine was a crush injury though that resulted in a bone graft so if yours is just a clean break I am sure come August you will be ready too go! Also I saw a natural path and I highly recommend you download an app to help calculate your daily protein intake for me it made all the different making sure I was at the 70g a day mark which is hard to hit. Also I found using supplement and vitamins to heal bone work like L-lysine, vitamin c, d and K drops, calcium, turmeric, and a multi vitamin but take your multi vitamin four hours before or after the others for better absorbtion apparently!!
Good luck!!

So sorry to hear about your bone healing taking its dear time. I broke my 5th metatarsal last year but it wasn't the Jones fracture which I hear has a particularly difficult time healing becaus there is not good/any circulation to that area. My break healed quickly and as a long distance runner I was back at my running after 6 weeks. I went slow, easy and short but by 8 weeks I was fine. I agree with miss's comment below regarding supplements but I would definitely put an emphasis on Vitamin D. I was also introduced during my healing process to Horsetail herb and I suggest you look it up, and start taking it too. I know patience alluded me too but in the end it is a good friend. I wish you well.

Once my orthopedic saw my bone was set, he encouraged weight bearing to help it heal quicker as bone strengthens more in order to handle stress and builds itself accordingly. I'm sending hugs, know that you will heal and be back on your game!

irritating, I posted a link to a short 2 1/2 minute YouTube video that shows how the bone heals. And the moderator removed it. No links allowed I guess. If you want to look it up you can go to YouTube and type in principles of fracture healing. The description then says an animated description of the stages of fracture healing and impediments to fracture healing. There is a longer one called healing process of bone fracture. I did not post that one but it's also worth watching. I find it fascinating really. Take care Alexander
