hi there it would be such a relief to hear back from anyone who is recovering from ankle surgery .
i fell from a loft resulting in a dislocation two breaks either side and a fracture in the middle apparently it was what they class a bad break !
i had to wait 2weeks for surgery because there simply wasnt any way they could fit me in due to a lot of emergencies but 2wks later i had surgery and now with a plate and pins either side i am now 3wks on wondering if all the things i am feeling are normal? im expecting to feel pain and swelling but it would be so good to just hear from others going through the same thing ? x

yes its very hard to know what normal is for you . my surgery was january 3rd. i read on internet different things, doctor said 8-10 weeks for me its been longer. I'm 280 lbs when I went out in public I USED A WHEELCHAIR. Hard to do not weght-bearing for distance. I was told to stop crutches at 10 weeks. But I couldnt walk without limping because of pain i spoke to nurse and she told me to keep wearing boot as needed and i discovered that with one crutch it was WONDERFUL! I did that for two weeks and started therapy again they told me I didn't need boot or crutch; i called nurse again and told her that and how I felt and how there was pain whn i walked with no crutch. she told me to keep using boot (as needed) and crutch about week later i got out of boot but kept using crutch as needed. i did therapy twice a week for 6 weeks, exercised at home too. I can say NOW I FEEL MUCH BETTER. I use a cane occassionally (afraid of falling on unsteady ground). I still have some pain and swelling but I can see myself wearing a low heel soon. So it took me about 4-5 months to feel relief still not 100% but still on my way.
i wish you the very best...DON'T listen to what other people say! People told me they didn't need wheelchair, walker, stayed on crutches too long....I aggravated ankle by doing that moving too fast. Thats why I called nurse.....
