Broken ankle, now have a gangolian cyst

I broke my ankle and tore my deltoid ligament almost 6 weeks ago. Recently, I noticed a painful lump on the top of my foot. I thought it was a bone spur, but dr says it is a gangolian cyst. if it is not gone in 3 weeks, they will do an MRI and possibly drain or surgically remove it. By then, I will be 8 weeks into healing time, wearing a walking boot and that is when I'm supposed to start physical therapy, I really don't want to add time on my recovery. Has anyone else ever had this happen before?
