Broken Ankle, Now What?

Posted , 7 users are following.

I broke my ankle in 3 places about a month ago. 1 plate,16 screws latter, here I am. Can't sleep and I am having the weirdest sensations in my casted foot. It almost feels like pins and needles along with my foot feeling super sensitive. Anyways 2 more weeks in the cast then I graduate to a boot and will start physical therapy. Any advice from anyone who's been there or is going through it now? I must say the hardest part is losing my independence, and the boredom!

Broke mine in three places on 7/15. 2 plates and 14 screws. I have felt all kinds of weird sensations in my foot, but I agree that the lack of independence is the most difficult part of the recovery. Started walking with a boot last week and driving again a few days ago. Great feeling initially, but walking (full weight bearing) has made the ankle very sore and swollen. It's a long process. Be good to yourself and patient with yourself. Hope full in a few weeks, you can start bearing some weight and getting some of your life back.

      Thanks Robert,

I am hoping the boot will be way better than the cast as I will be able to take it on and off. Have the sensations in your foot subsided at all? I am finding it so hard to fall asleep with all the tingling, pins and needles going on.

It is so great you are driving, can't wait orthopedist said it would be 3 months for me, 2 more too go.

Thanks for the reminder that I have too be patient, I am reminded daily that this is definitely a marathon not a sprint!

Good luck with your recovery and take a fun drive for all of us here still laid up!
