Broken Fibula below knee, full cast?

I took a knock playing football. Didn't think much of it as it's not uncommon to ache a few days after. 8 days later, turns out I have a fractured fibula shaft, below the knee. It's not displaced and I worked manual labour up and down stairs on it for 1 week. Just didn't have much movement in my joints. In no real pain. Doctor put me in a full cast. I've had to take it off as I live alone and it's impossible, and don't want my joints ceasing up either. Any advice please, I can walk on it, I worked on it, obviously I'm not twisting and turning, but surely as long as I don't knock it and as it's not weight bearing bone that the bone will still heal the same if I continue as normal? With walking but not twisting and turning??

My son broke his fibula too - not displaced. His was above he ankle and was in a full cast (non weight bearing) for 4 weeks. It was removed and he returned to work. I don't know how you were able to take your full cast off but I would ask your doctor these questions.

I'm used to injuries from football and just thought it was a bruised bone. So just carried on as normal, went to work with a limp, I take pain well. Only fount out 8 days after I done it. The cast was only hard round the side and back and soft at the front to allow for swelling. I just cut it off.
My doctors already told me I need a full cast. Just wanted people's experiences on here. I shattered the fibula at the ankle on my opposite leg and went back to work after 6 weeks but the breaks at the ankle affect walking a lot more

i broke twice my ankle so it's a different story
i would recomend to follow the instructions.
i know that the fibula doesn't bear much weight, but still is surprising to read you can walk on it. from my experience i have been casted only when necessary, when i was given the plastic walking boot my ankle never healed and i could feel it by the pain.
so if it hurts when walking it definitevely should be avoided
