Hi Siobhan. I am 3 months post op. They broke my 5 th metatarsal and wired it back together. Lots of pain still. GP explained that 5 th met takes long time to heal properly as it receives extreme pressure during normal every day activity and only has very small weak muscles to assist in movement and flexibility. Can take up to 12 months for pain and swelling to totally go. An xray would show if bones have fused properly, if they have then it is just a waiting game. Good luck to her, hope she gets back to everything soon.😁

Welcome. Op or no op, same applies, takes very long time to heal. Ask for xray to check bone fusion.👍

Hi Pauline, when you say wired, what does that mean ? I have a big screw and 4-5 small screws with little plates between them. My surgery was in Febuary.... I'm still using a walker, in PT, which I haven't seen much progress at all. I am going to see a podiatrist tomorrow and get his opinion . I'm beyond frustrated with my foot.👿

Hi sickchicky, it is just a wire that connects one side of the joint to the other. Not sure how it is attached but it just looks the thickness of a narrow wedding band. I know what you mean about the frustration, I am 15 weeks post op and only started pt last week. Very frustrated with the whole process.

I fractured my 4th and 5 th metatarsal bones on my left foot early Febuary 2016. Had surgery, I am still experiencing pain, and need to use a walker STILL! I am very frustrated at this point. So I understand your concern with your daughter. I hope someone responds with some encouraging advice. I am unsure what to do at this point.

I feel very bad for her, I'm just really tired of getting no real answers, is this normal ? I can't believe it is. Just would like to walk on my own !

My surgeons assistant called me today, he wants me to see a pain management Doctor, I can't work and drive on pain meds. I need to be referred to someone that can help me walk without a walker.

I was referred to pain management. They organised physio to get me moving and Gabapentin to relieve the chronic nerve pain. Most days the nerve pain is better so that I can move better. However it makes me bounce off the wall after I have taken it so I only take it at night and I skip the 2 doses I am supposed to take during the day because I can't function if I take them. I am finding I am getting pain relief most of the day, it comes back about 5 pm but by then I am normally done for the day anyway. I take my pill again at about 9 pm, by 11pm I am very dopey so try to just read until I fall asleep
