Broken hip surgery

Hi I am 56yrs old and are 4weeks post surgery for broken hip ( nails and screws) also had p.e. and now on apixaben 5mg twice daily. My dr wants me to start Prolia injections straight away but I am worried about side effects and whether it would hinder bone healing. As I am feeling truly lousy atm dont want to add more misery. After surgery specialist at hospital said that my bones are worst than a 90yr old and he is pretty sure I have secondary osteoporosis and not genetic (mum was diagonoised in her late 70's) so running test but haven't  got an appointment with him for 2mths.My gp has been telling me for years that its genetic despite me breaking ribs, vertabraes, leg and now hip with very minimal force and insisting on prolia. Has anyone had prolia whilst on apixaban and healing broken bones? Honesty scared of taking Prolia as I am very reactive to medicines and usually suffer side effects. I am feeling sick dizzy tired having heart palpations cant sleep pains in my stomache and can't concentrate on anything could this be side effects of the apixaban? Tried  to increase bone density with natural methods diet and exercise  to no avail. Calcium and vit D levels are all good specialist suspects I have an autoimmune disorder. Sorry for the long post but really after some useful advice as gp won't discuss it with me just tells me to have the prolia injections. Going crazy trying to make decision on one hand it might increase bone density but after ready all the negitive response to prolia and side effects could end up worse. Any opinions or advice would be appreciated.

    Hi all

Saw my gp on friday and refused the prolia injection until I see the ortho to see how my broken hip is healing. I am concerned that prolia might interfer with bone healing and react to the blood thinners that I am on for my p.e. I didn't fancy having side effects from the prolia as I already seem to be having side effects from the apixaban(blood thinners). Has anyone on here had  broken hip surgery and gone back to normal activities after? I am afraid that I am going to be crippled for the rest of my life and be unable to play with my grandchildren etc! It is doing my head in worrying whether to take medication or not. Really feeling useless atm as cant even shower, dress myself ,make a cuppa(unless stand by kettle and drink it) without help and using a walking frame. I know there is plenty of people out there with worse problems than mine and I should be glad that i am still alive and kicking( well not actually kicking!). Tried telling my gp how i was feeling his answer was here take a script for antideppressants, just what I need more drugs with side effects told him no thanks! Sorry for the rant but actually feel better writing on here. So if anyone has an input on recovering from broken hip I would love to hear it.

No, not broken hip, but when I had shoulder surgery three years ago, there were people in the group who had had hip surgeries and issues and they compared it to the shoulder surgery and they said the shoulder was much worse for recovery etc.

Have you had a hip replacement

I need reminding what has been done to your hip.

My husband suffers with hip problems and he takes fish or krill oil and glucosamine which apparently helps. His is probably due to arthritis as he has issues with his knees too.

That is as much information I can give you unfortunately.

Glad you stood up to your doctor because it is you who has to suffer and deal with treatments.

I also have not broken a hip but as I was being carried out with fractured vertebrae, it went through my head, will I dance again. After a lot of determination and constant physio, I do everything I did before, except cycling. (Just in case ). So there is no reaso why you should not do everything you want to do. It's up to you. Do the exercises you are recommended to do as often as advised and more if you feel up to it.
