Broken left humerus mid shaft - 8 months down the line!!

Hi Everyone!!

What a nightmare the last 8 months have been and I tell you what I'm still none the wiser on what is actually going on with my left humerus! So on 8th April 2016 my friend took me for a day out to ride Segways around a field! It's was going great until I got knocked off and broke my left humerus in half!! It's now 8 months down the line and I'm getting pushed from different people at my local hospital! So basically cut a long story short the hospital have done X-ray after X-ray and also 2 x Ct scans which show that my humerus still isn't completely healed! Now I have seen about 8 different doctors since I had this injury and all of them are telling me different things!! Before my last CT scan the doctor said if there is not change we will have to operate! But get this I go and see a different one last Friday and he says, if your not in pain why should I have to operate?? I don't go by the scans I go by the patient! Well of course I understand that!! He also said to me that I should have been released from their care months ago if I wasn't in pain because scans and X-rays mean nothing if the patient is fit in themselves!! I have had no physio or anything! And the first doctor I saw was really impressed that I could move it given the scans still show it's very much broken!! I just really want to hear something which I going to help me out because I'm due to start a new job next week which I have had on hold since May - it's a very physical job and I just want to know if my arm can be strong enough!!! It seems like I'm going round in circles!! The doctor didn't really listen when I said it hurts now and again but when I'm not using it of course it's not hurting - it hasn't for MONTHS!!! Help anyone??

So you had no surgery and it hasn't healed, so did they plaster it, is it really painful or just achy, how old are you because at a young age it should heal if dealt with correctly, your also in USA im thinking because of your seeing so many different DR's

Just been having a look at your condition and it can take up to 18 months for them to heal completely, its a slow process by the looks of things, did they say there is no callous formation

Hi - I'm 25, healthy don't smoke or drink!! Yeah they told me it could take up to that but one person is telling me the complete opposite to the other! I'm in the UK - they firstly sent me to a knee and hip specialist and now are telling me it's time to see an upper arm one....8 months down the line! They said it's a delayed union but they have been saying that the whole time, the scans haven't been changing that was the last doctors words! I was told on the day I did it I would have an operation but then last minute they changed their minds because it was so well aligned! I had no cast just a strap thing and my arm in a sling! It's painful if I sleep on it and generally it aches but not severe pain!!

I'm wondering if you need something like adcal D-3 its a calcium and vitamin D supplement which you can get from your Dr or just buy over counter, its helped my fractures heal and mines hip and pelvis, they don't normally say its a non Union till you are at the maximum time scale for healing.

Is there zero sign, as in no callous formation.
