Broken Wrist lacking range of motion

Posted , 4 users are following.

I broke my right distal radius bone. I had to be put to sleep and have the bone manipulated back into place. I was in a cast for 6 weeks. I am out of the cast 8 days now. I cannot turn my hand to face my palm upwards. Is this normal??

FROM WHAT I'VE READ THIS IS NORMAL AND WHY PT WOULD REALLY HELP AT THIS TIME IN YOUR RECOVERY

Definitely! I couldn't imagine that I would ever see my palm again, but all is well now although it probably took me 4 months to get there. My rotation is now about 95% after 8 months. I had a bad fracture with surgery to plate and pin it so my rehab was probably much slower than yours will be. Good luck and keep exercising - you will get movement back but just have to be patient unfortunately.

Hi Lorna - yea sadly it is. I am about 8 weeks post cast and k wire removal and have around 75-80% movement. Hopefully they have arranged physio for you. If not ask. Also google fractured wrist exercises and lots of examples come up. You need to push these which can hurt I am afraid - but dont do anything too soon without medical advice. As Insay though the exercises will be painful but things get better.

I see Sally has replied - search for her thread. Some excellent advice and experiences in there that gave me hope when I was really despondent.

    Good luck!
