Bronchiectasis.

Hi I have been living with Bronchiectasis for years since having whooping cough as a baby. I am having problems with coughing and having attacks of not being able to breathe. Last night while out for dinner I swallowed food and I hit like a sensitive spot in my throat and i suddenly cough and then I cant breath in or out lasts a few seconds then istart to breath again but rasping and gasping. Has anyone else had this happen?

Lots of times. It's really embarrassing! Not sure what causes it - an allergy, a bit of inflammation or just coughing at the wrong time. I wish I could tell you I have a good solution - I just drink water and try to control the cough but sometimes it's really awful - I keep gasping and choking. Sorry no proper advice but just showing fellow feeling.

    Glenda,

I have the same problem. I always think that it is do to with as much coughing that is done with Bx, the throat gets over sensitive. Then when eating and breathing, the throat reacts.

I try to be careful when eating. Take small bites and chew well before swallowing. And be aware of food that have a dusting of sugar etc. the dust can tickle the throat and start you coughing.

I have had in the past, the same reaction you did: My throat would close up for a few seconds, it felt like trying to breath thru a straw. I would have moments of panic which would make it worse.

I too believe the throat is hypersensitive from coughing. Eating can get me coughing as well. Thank You, Barb for the advice on taking Papaya instead of omeprozole, if for no other reason, I love to find non-medicinal ways to deal with my conditions!!!
