Brostrom surgery

I'm due to have surgery within the next 18 weeks on my ankle, the pain is unbearable at times and there is constant swelling and pain especially when I'm walking (now with a limp). i was just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to manage the pain. it's making leaving the house daunting and i don't drive so i need my feet to get from a-b. any advice would be appreciated.

Are you able to get a knee scooter?

This won't help with the pain, but you wouldn't have to be walking on the ankle at all then.

I used one when I was non weight bearing and it was fantastic. I'm not sure where you live but where I am all the buses are accessible, so I was able to get to the shops, physio, the library etc.

a knee scooter would help while non weightbearing. it's very hard hopping on 1 leg on crutches or a frame.

they to exercise and strengthen your upper body and arms to help with crutches

you can buy a waterproof sleeve to cover your plaster cast so you can shower. pharmacies or Amazon sell them! you may need a seat for the shower. my shower cubicle isnt big so I has to sit on the seat and have my leg out of the shower, with lots of towels on the floor . worth it though to have a shower

    good luck with your op
