Bruised Heel after FWB

Posted , 4 users are following.

I am 8 weeks out after a trimalleolar fracture and ORIF. I went FWB a week ago and PT encouraged me to walk around ikea yesterday to simulate my walk into work and push myself. I have had heel pain throughout and today my heel looks bruised even with ice and elevation. Pain had gotten much worse.

They keep saying it's because I am now putting pressure on it but had this happened to anyone else?

It seems everyone with this fracture experiences different kind of pain and discomfort. Just being able to get a good nights rest took a long time. I chose a walker instead of crutches. I have had pain in my right arm now for a year. It's better but still not normal. Who knew from non weight bearing and lifting myself up for 6 weeks this would happen. This fracture does take a long time to heal. You will eventually.

    Hi,

Yes, i am the same. Just started weightbearing and my heel is hurting. I think its because i am putting more weight onto it than it is used to. And I think this is because I'm not walking properly yet.

Hi, I broke my ankle Christmas day. Treated it as a sprain and was diagnosed with a fibula break 13 days later. I was non weight bearing 6 weeks and started walking in boot a week ago. Terrible heel pain which I'm 98% sure is planter fasciitis as I had it years ago. Maybe this is what you have. I don't think its uncommon after an ankle injury and no weight bearing. Anyway, there's a ton of info online and youtube or if you're seeing a physical therapist ask them about it. Hopefully they will know what it is.
