bruising

Hi. I am 15 days post op. Most of you have now watched a hip replacement video Am amazed at the lack of pain . My question is bruising. Where did you get your bruising and what colours did you experience. I ask this as just below the side of my knee felt so bruised but nothing was there. Well thats what i thought. My nurse looked at the home visit and said it was bruised so i got hubby to take a photo. I was gobsmacked its yellow and runs right to my ankle where its purple. Apparently its VERY common.. i will see if dot will post a pic for me

Hi, I had no bruising on the thigh or by the incision. All my brusing was on my knee and side of my ankle. They said that was unusual and had me ice and elevate alot.

I had a knee MRI and it should excessive soft tissue swelling. I guess that's where all the fluid pooled. Try elevating.

These are sassy's photos of her bruises

Hi sassy, I had exactly the same and they continued to get darker/extend over a week, they also came, out of the "blue" at 15/16 days post op. The good news is they will go but mine took monthe to totally disappear (not painful after 10 days or so) Dot x

I had a lot of bruising this time but not below my knee. On my first op 15 years ago I had no bruising whatsoever. I did have a drain then in hospital. This time no drain and lots of bruising which took ages to go. I read somewhere that this is very common when you don't have a drain and the bruising like you have can go right down the leg. Apparently it can be from little blood vessels and the blood gradually works its way to the surface. The distribution is also aided by all the blood thinning treatment so it flows more!

It obviously didn't work for you then sadly! Still the bruising does go- it just takes time!
