Bulging disc C5 C6 Severe pain, What Treatment? UK

Should I be seeing a specialist?

Several months ago suddenly my arm starts to hurt mildly then severely.  Shoulder upper arm my wrists and my fingers.  It got so bad I was screaming in pain.  Gp came to my house and said 'she'd expect this with a 'mild' bulging disc at C5 and C6.  She's put me on Lyrica for nerve pain. 10 days now and still it's not helping.

Its affected my whole life.  Whats worrying is my other arm has started to feel the same only milder.

Do you think she's waiting to see if the Lyrica is going to work first before sending me to a specialist?

Thankyou smile

No mater what u take it will only mask the pain personally I always say give my new meds 6 weeks if no better push for a MRI . Other wise they will offer I physo and all sorts of other invasive treatment s first . Which is only right, expect by the time I do all this u could be 3-6 month a down the. Line worse off get a mri done that way u know what u have to work with. Doctor s arnt magical they can't see in side you with out doing one. So they can't see the extent of the damage. Push push push for MRI

Hi, Yes you definitely should ask if she can get a specialist ASAP. There is no sense hurting with cervical disc pain! I am a registered nurse and my first problems was a ruptured cervical C3-4 disc . I was 26 and had ruptured it on a paitient in ICU.

?I am now 68 and have had 4 Lumbar fusions and now after an MRI, my Pain management doctor says I must go back to neurosurgeon for possibly another surgery. I have reverse scoliosis, Deg. disc disease, arthritis and more. Perhaps you will only need PT and medications and brace to give it time to settle down. Don't have surgery to fast if you can try other things first. You might ask your Primary Physician if you could possibly have a stronger pain mgt. with medication. That would help in my opinion get you by, possibly without surgery. If you have to I wish you the best and it will stop that horrible pain.

    God Bless

      Candyfloss14 - We're rooting for you!

Elaine - as a Registered Nurse with ruptured neck disc, what pillow arrangement suits you? My neck disc C5-6 was seriously prolapsed 21 years ago when, aged mid-30s, I was dropped onto my front from a height of about 4 feet while unconscious. Also Right TMJ (jaw) joint was dislocated, likewise Rt shoulder. None have ever been treated. I recently discovered the incident also caused my ongoing constant AFib + palpitations. (I have never had high blood pressure.)

I worked out my 4-day migraines with vomiting mainly originated from any sleeping on my Right side. For 5 years I was unable to do any sleeping on my back (due to sciatica from 2 adjacent prolapsed discs in lower-back). Now I spend most sleep-time on my back. But I cannot use a pillow. If I do, nausea, increased dizziness, blurred vision and migraine result within a minute. Any ideas, please?
