Bumps on inner thigh/bum area ?!

Posted , 5 users are following.

imageI am a bit worried. I recently noticed that all of a sudden I saw little lumps appear down there, on my inner thigh and bum cheek area. This has never happened to me before so obviously I am slightly worried and confused. There is no itching or pain that comes a long with these bumps but in the past week more have started to appear.

I dont believe it has anything to do with shaving because i have been shaving regularly for the past few years and this has never happened.

Can someone give me advice as to what to do or what they think it might be?

I cant really go to the doctor during this whole Corona virus pandemic unless it is something serious.

Could it just be from shaving or does it look like an STI/STD or just a skin condition etc..?

    Dear d0502,

We'll need to see them close up, but it could be molluscum contagiosum, a relatively common viral STD.

    Here's a link for more information: https://patient.info/childrens-health/viral-skin-infections-leaflet/molluscum-contagiosum

MC is a benign condition. It can clear on its own but often patients will want treatment for the lesions. You should get this confirmed by your doctor and also get a full STD screen. Inform your partner to do the same with their doctor.

      Hi Adhari,

Thank you for the feedback. Do you recommend any particular medicines or ointments to treat this viral infection? It would be great if there was something available online that I could buy as I do not want to leave my house unless it is urgent during this Corona pandemic.

      Hi,

Not really! I'm afraid the two self-treatments that are effective require a prescription, namely imiquimod (Aldara) or podophyllotoxin 0.5% (Condylin).

Don't be tempted to freeze these off with some off-the-shelf cold spray for skin tag removal. If you are overzealous with treatment (and patients often are) you'll be left with scarring. Not a good idea, seeing it's on your inner thigh (and assuming you're a woman), may want to wear a swimsuit or bikini in future.

For now, IGNORE THEM. Don't shave that area and try not to scratch them off.

      Rgds,

      Adhari.

Thanks for the prompt reply! Before you replied I bought a topical treatment online called 'Molusk Solución Cutanea 3 gr' and it is specifically used for tackling MC.

After reading your response Im hesitant to use it. Do you still suggest to ignore them?

      Thanks a lot !

      Hi,

I don't have any personal/professional experience of using it.

It's certainly worth a try if you can't get to see a doctor anytime soon. I'm guessing you live abroad (EU?). The product contains 10% potassium hydroxide, which is quite a caustic chemical. Read the instructions carefully and maybe start by applying it to just one or two lesions to see how it does.

Once you know how to apply it and it's not causing too much irritation, you can get to work on the others. My earlier caution still applies.
