BUN/Creatinine second opinion

Posted , 2 users are following.

I'll try to give enough details briefly. 5ft8 217lbs 35yo male. My Bun was 14 and cratinine was 0.72 which gives a ratio of 19.44. Now I know this is not over 20 however I am overweight and even though ive been losing weight I have been flipping houses so not losing muscle mass which I believe means my cratinine levels themselves should be higher but either way puts my actual ratio above 20 right?

Wouldnt this indicate a kidney issue?

albumin/protein and iron are normal, thyroid is normal. cbc is normal, although increas nutriphils from last year and the year before and rbc is just above low. any other relevant info needed please ask.

Normally one only looks at the BUN/Creatinine ratio when one has azotemia. Azotemia means that one has an elevated BUN and or Creatinine. In your case neither of those are elevated and so one doesn't use the ratio. The ratio is used to give a clue as to the source of the elevation and again you have no elevation of those two and so it is useless.

Your BUN and Creatinine are both normal and so forget about the ratio.

All concerns should be directed at the doctor who has all the clinical information in front of him.
