    Hello Carl,

the length of the recovery period depends on the kind of surgery performed which, in turn, depends on the severity of the deformity. I was operated (2 years ago) on October 17th and I had to wear a surgical shoe for about 40 days (my deformity was serious, so I underwent big surgery). While wearing the shoe, driving was clearly out of question. After 2 months was allowed to resume participating in athletic activity. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Robert

Is this surgery TOTALLY NECESSARY! I am asking because you are young and with all surgeries their are complications, for instance I developed hallux rigidus after surgery, in short I lost the range of motion in my big toe, its so painful that id rather have my bunion back, you wanna do the less invasive surgery, if you have to, if you can hold off a few years I would do that,

What kind of bunion surgery are you getting? I had a lapidus procedure done with an osteotomy for my tailor's bunion on March 10th. I was six weeks non-weight bearing (in a cast and splint for the duration), then four weeks partial weight bearing in a boot (I don't know what they're called but they're huge and heavy) and I am now in a surgical shoe trying to walk and full weightbearing. I had the surgery done on my right foot so I haven't been able to drive since the surgery and I'm still in crutches. My partner drives me to and from work.
