Bunion surgery

Hi,
I have been reading the posts on this board for some time and I am hoping to have bunion surgery after Christmas. However, I noticed a few weeks ago a discoloured patch on my big toe nail and the chiropodist seems to think that it is a nail fungus. I have started to treat this with Curanail, but I am wondering whether I will still be able to have the operation in January as I do not know whether it is a good idea to have surgery whist having a nail fungus infection.
Just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar siruation and can give me advice.
I have waitied about 8 years for this operation because I am so worried about having it but as my foot has become so deformd over the years I am quite determined to actually go ahead now and it seems amazing that at this point I have a problem with my nail.
Any advice would be welcome,
Chrissie

I've got fungal nail infection too and have tried EVERYTHING to be shot of it, all to no avail. My Consultant must have noticed, as it has affected all the toenails on the foot in question. He didn't say anything about it and my op is planned for 5 December. I shouldn't worry about it Christine, so many people have this and its such a devil to cure. Have you got a date for your op? xx

I am seeing my consutant on the 10th November so it will be interesting to see what he has to say. I was contemplating lasor treatment for my nail problem but I understand that it is not cheap. I do not really know how effective it is, but have read reports on the internet which are positive. Which other treatments have you tried?
I am hoping to have the operation as soon after Christmas as possible so I can hibernate for a few weeks in january.
I was told by my consultant that I have to wait for two months after going on any aeroplane flights and I fllew back from Rome last week so January should be OK.
Do you know the details of your operation,
Chrissie xx

Yeh I agree with the others. I don't know much about it but if you are worried then just mention to consultant or your GP before hand so you can relax a little bit.

If I were you I would google it and see what you can you can use naturally. I believe Tea Tree oil works real well, just put it on several times a day. try to get your house in order before the surgery, plenty of food. Make a comfortable place for yourself, I got a hopsital bed for my living room so I could be in the middle of everything. I took care of myself, kept stuff by the bed, used a walker, never used crutches, I don't trust them for myself. Just be prepared to take some time off and try to not rush the healing time.
