Bunion Surgery in five days

Posted , 19 users are following.

I'm five days away from the first of two bunion surgeries. I'm a 55 yr old male, extremly active. 6 days a week cardio. Extremely severe bunions. Will I regain mobility for Eliptical training in the near future. Also, I'm not a reader or tv guy. Feeling like I'm in for a rough time. Please send HELLLP to new Jersey!

    Hi Bob,

So glad to hear that all went well with your surgery-sorry to hear about your Mum...difficult timing for you and her. Such an amazing visit from your late Dad's neighbour -what a gift.

It went back to work on March 21st with my doctor's blessing. Like many of the others, I found the first week very tiring. Even though I do not stand very much during my working day, I found that my feet were much

more swollen than I would have anticipated - the shock of wearing shoes again and sitting at a desk, I guess. I am happy to report that this is week is much better....and walking with shoes on is vastly improved from the a mere 7 days ago. Thanks so much for asking!

Keep us posted on your recovery.

    All the best!

    Hi Bob,

I'm new to this forum about bunion surgery. My name is Shelly and live in Las Vegas Nevada due to my job I'm a cocktail waitress in a casino I'm having both my bunions removed. I'm in constant pain and I'm also very active but, due to the pain in both my feet I've been slowed down to a halt in working out. i'm at a point that I have to do something about my bunions, working is miserable and i hate that my activity levels have dropped off.

I read your post on here and wondered if you had your surgery its April 16.I'm meeting with my surgeon tomorrow afternoon to set up appointment for surgery. I've been reading a lot of the posts on here and I'm feeling better about getting it done.

I'm also very active and, laying around for two weeks is the scariest thought for me. I figured I'd talk to someone on here to keep me motivated and have something to do with my down time.

Thats my suggestion to you, or belp. I've been reading posts on here for the past few days and, its helping me feel better about what to expect. I'm planning on posting on here or finding someone on here thats going through the same thing I will soon be going through. My prayers and thoughts are with you if you feel like it post back and let me know where your at in your healing process.

    Hi Bob,

This is Shelly from Vegas. I had my surgery last Tuesday, today is Monday so its been 6 days. i've had a rough time doing nothing but, laying around watching tv and, reading. I'm not going to lie to you the pain the first 4 days was really intense. It actually hurt a lot more than i had expected but, the up side is I'm starting to feel better and I know in a couple of weeks I'll be back to being my old self only better. I'll be able to work and go back to the gym etc...

I'm goimg back to the Doctor in 2 days and have slowed down with the pain pills. I'm still laying around using ice a lot and am going to take it easy.

I sincerely think that healing has as much to do with attitude and remember this will pass. In the long run you'll be back to your old self in no time.

    take care,

    Shelly

Hi Shelly....so glad you are into the stage now of easing pain! Do let us know how it goes at the doctor.   What procedure did you have? There is an active thread called "Hello There" where a number of us have discussed our ongoing experiences. You will see Bob's updates as well. Perhaps you will join us there? Also there's a lively FB group called I SURVIVED A BUNIONECTOMY!  that you may want to check out. A number of us are on both sites. 😃

Hi i just joined this forum today, i like you, Bob had a very severe bunion and i had surgery 4 weeks ago. I was very lucky as i have not suffered much pain but my foot does get very stiff if i don't elevate it. Initially my surgeon said i would have to elevate it all the time apart from hobbling into the loo, for 2 weeks but when i went back to have my stitches removed he said it was still quite swollen so i would have to do so for remaining 4 weeks. I am finding this the biggest challenge and i have to admit that i have been known to hobble around our local supermarket. The special boot they give you to wear is a godsend because your foot feels very vulnerable without it. Fingers crossed when i get back to surgeon in a couple of weeks he will tell me that i can get into my "crocs" and get back driving. Did anyone on this forum have to go for physio? take care everyone, sláinte Caroline.

      Hi

If you post on the Hello there thread you'll find lots of us bunion buddies there! Bob likes to joke that we're his bunion babes! Guessing that you may be Scottish or Irish? Where did you have your op?

Hi Eileen yes your right i had my operation in Ireland, just randomly came across this site as i was trying to fill some time. Just ordered myself some arnica tabs so hopefully they will help with the swelling and i will back to sime kind of normality.

Hi and welcome Caroline! The biggest thing I've learnt in my recovery 10 weeks now, is patience patience and more patience and I sensed your impatience in your post! You can't rush this recovery specially for walking and driving so take care and try and enjoy the slower pace for a while :-). Best. 👣👣
