Bunion surgery, month follow up

I had bunion surgery exactly a month ago today. Today is also the day I see the consultant for the first time since surgery.

In short this is the worst thing I’ve had to have done. I’m still getting a lot of pain and can only walk on the side of my foot and/or heel. When I put my foot down flat it hurts and I’m still struggling to walk I’ve tried but seems as though I’m getting nowhere. My big toe is also really inwards and going under the toe next to it so I believe that’s why the bones still hurt there, not too sure. But I’m mainly here because my foot has been wrapped since my op. I’ve had bandages changed twice already, and my foot wiped down...but my foot right now absolutely stinks!!! My appointment is today and I’m embarrassed but I cannot take off my current bandages and I was told to not get it wet. Do I just have to pluck up the courage. I put my finger in the bandage touching the base of my foot and so much dead skin and it stinks.

I know they probably see it all the time but I get self conscious. I can’t take the bandages off because I don’t have anything to wrap it back up let alone wrap it up decently. Thanks for your time and sorry for rambling.

Just go and have the check up! They have seen it all, so don´t worry about that – it is as it is, just be happy to have the foot looked at today by experts to recieve the proper care and treatment the foot needs :-) Good luck today and don´t worry, just go ;-)

I couldn’t believe how much dead skin just clumped all over the bottom of my foot and the sides!  Oh and the smell is like sour toe jam. It’s so disgusting I hear you!  When my doctor took off the bandages I literally took sanitizer all over my foot. Not the sewn up part but all over. Then I put lotion on it. He waited😂. I told him I will go insane if he doesn’t let me do this. It helped with the smell. Also note the calluses make it almost painful to walk too. Once you get all that dead skin off it’ll feel better. The first 6 some odd weeks are tough. Oh that smell though. Haha
