bunionectomy includes shortening calf muscle?

I consulted a top surgeon about my mobility/stability issues which I believe are caused by pain from a severe bunion and changes to my foot. He explained that the surgery would include shortening my calf muscle. I was too shocked to question him about it but am increasingly uneasy. Has anyone heard of this?

Hi, my bunion surgery included an op to lengthen my calf muscle. The shortened muscle had apparently caused the bunion in the first place, so I would check what is planned. It was no big deal. Keyhole at the back of the knee, big bandage for 2 weeks.

    Hi

Have you found out why they are shortening your calf muscle?  I would really like to know.  I have had the Bunion surgery done twice.  This last time my knee keeps going out .  It has to be something to do with everything they did.
