Buprenorphine PAIN RELIEF FROM OSTEO-ARTHRITIS

Posted , 10 users are following.

Brcause I take warfarin am unable to treat the osteo-arthritis with anti-inflammatory medication. Until Buprenorphine was using Tramadol with only short term relief but many side effects. Since using BUPRENORPHINE 10 patches the relief from pain especially in hands and spine is almost unbelievable. My GP says there is very little use of these slow relief patches for whatever reason. I can only say I wish I had been using them years ago it would have been such a relief from severe pain. Because the drug releases a set amount over the week they are much more effective than short term Analgesics, which have to be taken in large doses and regularly. :D :P

Osteo in hips and knees. Can't take tramadol cos it sends me a bit loopy and anything with codeine causes all sorts of gastro problems. My doc tried me on the patches and because they bypass the stomach problems they work ok ( bit drowsy maybe ) I can't see the same doc every time so I went back to get the patches put on repeat and a different doc refused, said they were prescribed for terminally ill patients only. He put me on dihydrocodeine and paracetamol so all the gut problems are back and they're a bigger problem than the pain so I'll probably bin them and just put up with it.

Just an update, These patches are great, I have had no side-effects worth mentioning. Two downsides. Firstly one does get used to them and I am now on 35mg patches that last for 4 days, 2 per week, and I can not drink my favourite wine! I dread running out of this treatment as for me it is a wonder drug. My insides are so much happier, I am eating better and hardly ever feeling sick. I take paracetamol, and sometimes use a gell called Ketoprofin 2.5% for my neck at beadtime, and have the deeper type of Tens machine, called Interferential to help me get to sleep at night or for break through pain after doing to much.

Thank you! It only took 1/2 hour of searches to find out if this new-for-me medication will help with my ostio arthritus! I am highly allergic to NSAIDs, they make me puke after a day!

Hi rocky 1952. I found the patchws  great for oa, BUT I too am highly allergic to lots of things and , eventually, the adhesive on the patches became a problem , and I couldnt continue .  They do take approx 3 weeks to get into your system, so persevere .Eventually I was on stronger and stronger doses of opiate , but had an ablation to the spinal nerves in August that worked well, but have taken till this week to come off my morphine based drugs , In August I was on 180mg od slow release, plus breakthrough oral doses , and have now been off everything for 48 hours,.

so , the down side is , that doses creep up over time ,5 years in my case, until I found a great pain control specialist who did the ablation , I had to fight my gp for this, who was keen for me to just get a bike! As I was by then unable to push a trolley round the supermarket , you can imagine my relief to hve this procedure .

I wish you all the best ,oa is a dreadful , underated pin, so hope you do well with the oatches.

Wishing you a happy and comfortable christmas

    Hi,

ive just been prescribed 10mg per hour release patches, as finding Tramadol 4x daily not doing enough to ease pain, particularly at night, was sweating profusely and was constipated. I have an immune system disorder and rheumatoid arthritis and osteo now, mainly in right knee which has a torn meniscus, the pain is horrific, have tried morphine but got to 30 mg and was almost asleep stood up! But not much pain relief. I see you had started the patches 7 months ago? Are you still using them? And how quickly did they start to relieve your pain? I've only been on them for 24 hrs! No relief as yet, asking a lot I suppose, just desperate to be comfortable sitting, lying down and being able to walk more than 2 ft without pain!

Have been on the patches for over two years and am up to 35mg, so am using liquid morphine for breakthrough pain, this enables me to complete a task and then sit down and take a small dose as it works quickly.

Not everyone finds the patches suite them as their skin reacts badly but I have only had to remove mine early twice as causing itchyness. Good luck
