Burning and tingly mouth and nose. Throbbing face and tinnitus

Hi ladies

I just need to write a post on here.

For months now I've been suffering with pressure, burning and dry nose.

Over the months I've been treated with antibiotics. Also the pressure in my head, even hurts to lye down.

I also have a burning mouth and tongue. My tongue is tingling to. I have loud tinnitus with it. I havent slept for 3 nights running now. When I lye down my nose throbs and I don't know how to help the pain. Also my jaw is weak and hurts and I find it hard to chew. My dentist was concerned and referred me to a maxofacial specialist who I see Wednesday.

My nose will go red as the day goes on. I know burning mouth syndrome is related to menopause but this seems extreme. My teeth hurt but my oral health is good. When I eat certain texture foods it's hard to swallow it. My doctor hasn't helped but my dentist is concerned. I also have a ENT appointment on Friday. I'm at wits end with it. It's so frightening and I'm shattered because of the pain. Sorry for long post all.

Has your doctor told you what the AB's are for, or is he just hoping they will do SOMETHING and you won't bother him again?

I'd go with whatever your dentist says. Like opticians, they can tell you a lot about your overall health from the state of your teeth/eyes. They are the experts.

I have not experienced the misery you are going through (thank God!) but I do know what it is like not to be able to get comfortable enough to sleep, it's awful isn't it? With 5 pillows and a lot of shuffling, I get get to sleep. But then I slide down the bed and wake up with pins and needles in my hands and a pounding head ache.cry

Michelle ,me to mouth and have tinnitus also ,I've been put on HRT 3 weeks ago low dose ,early days so Im hoping that will calm the mouth down in time , last week had 4days when I didn't have it . It's called burning mouth syndrome yes and a meno symptom . Don't use a mouth wash ,that has hurt my mouth even more ,so avoid it .

My tinnitus drives me up the wall . Constant no let up . Im getting a Thyroid scan ,as my blood work showed up antibodies ,may want to get thyroid checked out , or ask ENT about it ,being your there next week . Won't hurt to bring it up . Throat an all .

Try an antihistamine ,see if that helps .Cetririzine Hydrochloride . Mention this at ENT ,best write down all you've been saying here. Hand it to consultant ,always find that's best ,let  him / her read it . Nothing gets left out . To much going on hey to deal and cope with . Get where your coming from .

Hi Michelle I too get the burning mouth and nose I have recurrent sores up both nostrils which tend to come and go all the time. Also I've been to the dentist numerous times about pain in gums but as usual perimenopause is the cause. I know it's frightening I also have Health Anxiety so it's a nightmare this forum and the lovely ladies here are great for helping us cope x

Did they get to the bottom of the sores. My nose throbs and feels like I'm breathing in hot air and it's so dry. My actual face pulsates too. X

Doctor said it was all perimenopause related took me a while to convince myself it was as I sometimes think everything is blamed on perimenopause but I guess it is as it comes and goes yes my face throbs sometimes I think I've a pulse lol x

Hi Michelle, I had sudden extreme tinnitus come on two years ago not long after a two week period which is normally 3 days only. I have had brain and sinus scan, been on courses of antibiotics and nothing helps. Scans clear. I have pressure in my head most of the time and have had to stop working. The severity of pressure and loudness of tinnitus can vary but some days can be very hard to cope with. I have hearing aids just to put white noise into my ears to cope. I've been told it's depression, anxiety and I need to relax! I am 48 and have also been told it's "likely" that I am perimenopausal as I have a number of other symptoms, though no night sweats yet! I too feel like my whole face, sinus and head muscles are aching and tight, though I don't have the burning sensation. My vision is constantly blurring in one or other eye and my ears feel like I'm on a plane...yet they have been checked numerous times and nothing wrong. I find it hard to believe this is all because of hormones sometimes but I have to believe one day it will stop or get easier or I wouldn't be able to cope. I hope you have found some relief by now. Take care.

Your post brought me some comfort. I'm sorry that you're going through this, but it is reassuring to me that you've been experiencing similar symptoms and yet all of your medical investigations have come back negative for anything "serious".

This head pressure has been going on for over a year, with maybe a slight reprieve over some of the summer. I'm not sure if you've experienced this too, but I find that sometimes the pressure in my head can build up even more when I'm talking lots/singing or not breathing correctly when I bend over or bend my head forward. I also find that the pressure feels like it needs to escape from my ears - very odd to try and explain. I have also had incredible tinnitus these past few years. I believe that it's been building up and now it is almost unbearable, especially at night. I'm lying here typing this and the ringing is intense.

I too, have the burning sinus pain, usually on one side, but I also feel like the bones in my face are tender (if I am to pat makeup on my face, it can feel tender). I have had episodes of hot burning tongue as well. This comes and goes though - along with acid and dysphagia. I sometimes feel like swallowing is moving in reverse, and food gets stuck. This is more of a flare up situation. I had it for months straight and then it subsided - had a barium swallow test - now it returns for a few days at a time and is not so constant. Was prescribed PPIs but I am hesitant to try them.

The head pressure is intense for me though. I too have had issues with my vision. My optometrist believes that I am having a type of migraine, mainly an aura minus the headache, when I get light sensitive. I do have a smudge in the vision of my left eye, but that came when I had a vitreous detachment a few months ago. My left eye now has a permanent bolt of light in my peripheral, in the dark. It's particularly annoying when I'm driving at night.

So many unbelievable, odd, changing symptoms with this time. I never would have expected all of this had I thought about menopause before it all began. The weirdest things happening to my body and so many doctor's visits & tests over the past 6 years - more visits combined than in my entire life before age 40.

Again, so thankful for the posts of people sharing their "odd" symptoms as well - it really helps reduce the anxiety (most of the time).
