Burning at Incision Site

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hello all,

I'm 3 weeks post THR and today I suddenly developed a STRONG burning sensation at my posterior incision site . It only happens with movement, specifically getting up from the bed or a chair. The incision looks fine - there are no signs of infection. It didn't have any staples of stitches.

Was it just numb until now?

Anyone else have this experience? What did you do for it? (I'm not on any pain meds and icing doesn't really help.)

Thanks!

Sounds like you are straining / pulling a muscle when you get up. Make sure your seat/bed isi'nt too low for you. you could build up the height of the chair by adding blanket/ books under neath the cushions ,it worked for me. I had to sleep down stairs for nearly 6 wks on my three seater lounge chair.

Oooh! I never thought of this. My surgeon said I could ease up on the precautions so I ditched my 4" high intensity foam cushion, the raised toilet seat and, again with his blessing, started sleeping on my side (with a pillow between my legs.) Methinks I will put them back for a little longer. Thank you so much.

I think that's a perfectly normal sensation at this point in your recovery. I'm two years out from my first surgery and one year from my second and my incisions still sometimes have a pulling, stinging sensation especially when changing my sleeping position in bed.

I had no idea discomfort could last that long. Yikes. Hopefully, eventually, it will return to normal for us.

I only got rid of my above toilet seat a couple of weeks ago. Had it for 3 mths, probably didnt need it that long as I could manage the upstairs toilet after two months..
