It hinders my pt it's so bad. I still have blood pooled in my knee which prevents me from bending it. I'm only at 75 and it's 3 weeks today po. I'm told it will be absorbed. .but when. Knee is still very swollen. Trying not to get discouraged but everyone knows someone who is way past where I am now and let's me know that. My op was 3/18. 3/25 my best friend my mom passed away. We had services wed Thurs this week. It's been tough.

    Linley,

my my swelling was bad no still is at 7 weeks when I exercise.  I got a few extra cold gel packs and I ice the top and bottom on knee at same time..this has helped me.

my best friends father died and we had services and 45 out of town guest last weekend...I am still recuperating from that some.  Spent way too much time on my feet.

    Linlee,

you know how your body feels...ONLY you.  Do not let everyone else push you or make you discouraged.  75%bend at 3 weeks is good...trust me.  R u taking time to rest and elevate you leg above your heart...should be 2 X a day for an hour.  This is separate from icing after exercise.  This will also help with your blood pooling.  It is as important to rest as it is to exercise.  Your body heals when you rest.  The burning you are having may be causes from overdoing...the soft tissue and nerves are raw right now.  Please.....listen to your body.

i am 8 was po now at 130% bend and have been flat since 4 weeks.  I started having the burning around my knee front and back....and it was waking me every night the last 2 weeks.  Doc said slow down a bit...rest at bit more each day.  He also gave me Tramadol to take at night.  I am only taking ibuprofen 800mg during the day, now.

I listened to my body....pain is actually your friend...if it hurts then do not do it....or am I doing it wrong....or is something wrong...is my body too tired?

Don't go down the road of questioning yourself. Don't worry about your bend, or lack of. Work on your muscles. That is most important, concentrate on your quads. Take more than ibrubrofen as you need to kill pain..Also try heat, sometimes that is more soothing mentally and physically.

Thanks suisobol, I will not.  I do take additional meds if I need them, but actually I am doing well in the pain category.  Heat makes sense....I have been getting in shower right before bed at night...I actually wash in shower earlier in day.  It is very relaxing.

having your operation last month means that you should be resting more than standing.  No-one minds if you say you HAVE to sit. More so, just because you are told your bend needs to be more, doesn't mean you HAVE to get there.  Everyone heals differently, some take longer than others. Start thinking about what you do when getting around.  Are you walking properly, most probably not! Are you walking with a cane? If you are using a crutch or walker; ditch them, they only work when you cannot walk at all. A cane will support your bad leg but also enable you to walk correctly.  If you heel/toe it, use the stairs, walk down backwards if it's easier (do it slow and deliberate) you will find that the swelling will ease. Forget the bend until you are comfortable with the other exercises. 10 minutes standing at the most. You are the only person who knows just how much pain you are in. Rule it, not the other way round, if it means asking other people to do things for you, asking for something to rest you leg on, do so. When you sit in the car; push the seat back as far as you can so that it is not so bent, even on the shortest distances.  Think ahead and you will go far (and you'll leave the pain and discomfort behind)

You have no idea how comforting your response was to me. I have been doing too much. I rest but feel like I should be doing something so it is short lived. I have started using ice other times than after exercise. The swelling has actually started to go down! I can just feel my knee cap. It's still a little pink and warm. Little concerned about that. See Dr on Friday.

Yes...Linlee...rest and elevate.  1 hour elevate above heart and ice..2x...per day....this is extra elevation...does not count for after exercise.  You need to find something to occupy your mind while you rest...read..I sew....whatever you like to do.  I still have warmth...my doc said it is healing....what it is warm.  Let us know what doc says....in the meantime...rest!!

You are so welcome, we are women, we don't know the meaning of slow or stop, You are still in the early days; pink and warm is good (hot is not), it will ease, work on the muscles not the bend, but I agree with Pam92068 find a craft that will occupy your mind (I made jewellery when I was stuck at home). I came back  to work after 3 weeks, but I have "support" at work, ie they will do things to save me running about, but if I am having a real pain day!!! forget it.  (did I mention I work in a male only office?? I say no more).. Needless to say there are days when I am absolutely wacked to the point I am in bed by 8pm. Then the mantra pops into my head, "take it slow and easy"  huh!

But whilst you are recuperating, there are things you must do, whether you sit in an office or are at home. Otherwise it takes longer.  Good luck with your doctors appointment, if he mentions your "bend", don't get upset, you will get there x
