I have residual pain about 10 years after the op. A significant bleed post operatively that left my groin black and blue for weeks. Nervous damage can be relieved by a small regular dose of  ametryptelene and I have deep massage to stop the  mesh material used in the repair from eating into surrounding bowel etc.

Thank you!  How is ametryptelene administered? Can I do deep massage to the area myself? - not sure I can do that on sensitive areas but can do it directly on incision area where the lump is...?

Amitriptyline is a tablet.  Use only a qualified physiotherapist for the massage AFTER speaking with your doctor.  At the beginning, it would have to be very light.  But, for me, after many years, the repair is solid and can take very deep massage.

Hi Matt, sorry to hear your having a bad time with your recovery. I do remember some burning sensations during the healing process and a quick search on google brings up a few discussions. I was not that active at 3 weeks and probably still just taking walks rather than any real physical activity. Having read your other post maybe rein it in a little and see if it improves? Other than that speak to your surgeon and see what they think.

Thanks!  My doc said I can start activities slowly but to listen to my body.  That said - yeah, good idea to take it slower.

    Hi Matthew 2.

I had open inguinal surgery 2 weeks ago on the site of a previous hernia…this is my third op in 15 years….I have exactly the same symptoms as you describe …..From memory don't try and rush things…It does take much longer than you think or expect to get back to normal…All these folk on the American forums who say they resumed sex after 3 or 4 days are quite simply from another planet….Give it time my friend and let me know how you get on….I will update in a few days and we can compare notes…..good luck..

Thanks, Dave. Why 3 surgeries?  Revision? I've only done normal household chores, etc and am afraid to even think about going back to Crossfit. Now I have what I think may be Mondor's "disease" which is inflammation of dorsal vein of the penis that makes erections painful. Doc says it has NOTHING to do with the surgery...??! Have seen 2 or 3 other identical stories on the internet - hoping it's just a waiting game. Also numb and severe rash feeling that seems to be getting better each day. Starting to have regrets about this surgery. Good luck with your recovery! -

      Matt - from America. Haha

Recurrent hernia.much worse this time as incision twice the size and old mesh had to be cut away .im still very swollen and in loads of pain but know it will go.. plenty of walking and nothing else is the way forward...please don’t worry your symptoms are normal,..give it lots of time..keep in touch and best of luck..and remember it’s called the minor op with major pain!!

Sorry to hear your story. Why/how does a hernia recur where mesh is in place? Sounds like this procedure is a mere Band-Aid. And thanks for the reassurance. Things are better just within the past day or two. Best wishes mate.
