Burning sensation in foot

Hi there, my daughter is now 5 weeks post op, she has developed a burning sensation and electric shock type feelings in the foot, it's very sensitive if touched, on the same side she had the surgery.
Her surgeon did warn us that she may suffer with some nerve pain as it was a difficult procedure, I'm assuming that this is what's causing this problem. Has anyone else experienced this? It's waking her in the night, she's only on a small dose of amitriptyline at night and thinking it may need to be increased to help her through this time.
Thanks
Vicki

She's 16, and has cerebral palsy.
To cut a long story short her muscle tone pulls her bones in the wrong directions her femur had been twisted into a corkscrew shape.
She's has had over 14 procedures on her hips over her short life.
The foot isn't hot to touch she describes the pain as a burning feeling.

I'm so sorry to hear this unfortunately I have little knowledge of this apart from the basics, all I can suggest is speak to your daughters specialist, and keep on nagging thwm till you get a result, your daughter has been through more than most of us on this forum at only 16!! so push and push till you get the answer and treatment she needs, I sincerely hope she starts to feel better very soon,
my heartfelt love and prayers go to you both,
Love ,
Lynne xx

I never had that but there are a few people on here (none recently) who have had nerve damage. They describe the nerve pain exactly as you have. Apparently there is some type of medical testing equipment they can use to test your nerves and for one woman they went in with surgery I think (not sure) and killed the nerve. I think she was put under care of a neurologist if I am not mistaken.
From what I recall from those postings the nerves can heal up but it takes a very long time, like a year. At least in that woman's case it was a year. I would ask your doctor how long it takes for the nerves to heal up. Again so sorry, doctors may want to wait a good long time to see if the body will heal itself.

You and your daughter have been through so much already and I know at times you think it will never end (I have a son with a developmental disability and an assortment of physcial limitations so I know your fustration).
It sounds like this is happening mostly at night. If so, and it mainly her heel that is giving her pain, myself and many others have had this and it appears that it is caused by sleeping on your back, with the foot in the upwards position, affects the nerves somehow...many have got relief by either putting an ice pack under the heel, sheep skin pads under heel, pillows under their knees. I myself was told my my PT to put a small folded towel under the small of my back, just enough to fill the gap, but not be uncomfortable and it worked).
If the pain is throughout her whole foot, than I'm sorry I have no advice for you.
Stay strong and let your daughter know that many of us on this site will be thinking of her and how brave she is.
Healing Hugs from Toronto!!!
