Hi, I have just been diagnosed by my GP with LS after a couple of years at least of itching and irritation which came and  went. I am 49 years old, I have been prescribed Clobestol and applied this once a day forr a few days, there is now burning /stinging that was not theree before. Has anyone else experienced this? I have  been back to GP who has taken a swab for thursh and advised me to use canestan crem along side Clobestol. Should I get a referal to a Gynaecologist to manage this condition?  I have to say I am in shock about this and very worried about fusing etc. The doctor has said there is some atrophy but very slight. I can not see any white patches or white spots, just had this awful itching. It is alll very worrying.

    Hiya,

I cant use anything topically as it makes things worse! I think alot of ladies have the same reaction.  I control my LS with diet mainly - no sugar/gluten/dairy.  Bit of a pain  but you should get positive results within a month.  I also take celedrin and MSM.  Good luck xx

Hi, that is interesting, I am just in the process of trying gluten free as have also had a flare up(after years of being ok) of IBS. I tried a sugar dairy & gluten free diet many years ago for a serious chronic  health problem, I have to say it was very hard to do, but this time have found mre gluten free products. Thank you very much for the info x

You've come to the right place. Definitely see a gynaecologist. If you were given the cream, there are extra ingredients in it that some people react to. I went to my pharmacist and ordered a refill, but asked for the ointment version of clobetasol. She did so, and typed 'pt request' on the label. It could be a temporary thing. It takes months, sometimes many, for the drug to settle LS symptoms down. That's why we're all here sharing tips on all the other things we do while we're waiting.

A bath with 1/3 cup of baking soda in it is soothing. A rinse or wet blotting after each pee, then something oily applied may help.

Hi , I should have said it is ointment, not cream. I tried coconut oil to moisturise. I have felt like skin there has been dry for sometime even without itching. I will try the baths thank you x

Hi , l agree with everything Morrell says but would like to add that using canestan cream with clob sounds like a bad idea to me . I had thrush and used canestan and nearly when nuts with the burning ,my skin was really sore and lumpy , my docter gave up and admitted she did not know what to do next , told me to put on what l liked until l saw the consultant . When l finally saw the consultant , she did a byopsie and told me to use vaseline and clob when l had a flare up. The clob needs to be used carefully omly a small amount ( the size of a small pea ) and only on the affected area . Plus she advised that if you get thrush , take the tablet but do not use the cream .lused vaseline and the area calmed down , it was not sore because of the LS but because of the canastan which was why the clob did not work. Now l use vaseline daily and clob when needed and things have settled down .Diet plays a big part l have changed mine drastically ,lots of imformation online about what to eat. Try not to stress out this makes things worse. Good luck , hope my story helps .

Hi, thank you. Unfortunately I have had probems taking the oral tablet as it interacts with meds I am already on for something else. I am not convinced it is thrush to be honest as have suffered with thrush for years and know the signs, but doctor did say to put canestan  on at other end of day to clob, I have put some(canestan) on this afternoon and have to say can feel the burning already so think I may lay off it until swab come back to confirm thrush or not. Thank you very much x

Personally I like the combo glob and coconut oil better.  (Plus diet and baking soda rinses and baths.)  Early on I also have used Emu oil, and found it soothing at that early time when things were pretty rough.  Now I only use coconut oil, which is also anti bacterial and anti fungus.

Hi,my gyno wont prescribe anything but ointment forms she said creams can contain alcohol and cause irritation.

    Hello

So sorry for what you are going through. My experience with Clob was the same. I went to a compounding pharmacy and requested for all alcohol to be removed and a petroleum jelly base be used. It made me alot more tolerable of Clob. Ask your pharmicist for help. Hope this works for you

Hi, are you in the UK? Just wondered as have never heard of having a prescriotion mixed for you. I wanted to also update my post to say that my symtoms of burning with the cream have settled for now, I am hoping that this means I am getting used to it. I am using coconut oil in the morning and cream at night. I am waiting for a referal to gynaecologist, my doctor was reluctant to do this for some reason,  but as this is a chronic disease I feel it should be managed by a specialist, I don't feel that there is enough time at the doctors surgery for a normal appointment to deal with this.

It can't hurt to go to a gynecologist--I'm amazed that your regular doctor was able to figure out that you had LS! It took me MONTHS, several trips to two gynos and hundreds of dollars of medical bills (yep, America sucks) until they could finally diagnose me. My irritation kept being mistaken for yeast/bacterial infections and I was in constant discomfort.

Anyhow, a specialist will be able to give you better advice/treatment options. And I'm assuming that you have access to doctors who aren't idiots. So I would advise it.

I was diagnosed with LS in Feb/15 and was prescribed Clobetasol. I had to use it nightly for 4 months then 3 times per week thereafter. During the first two weeks I experienced a lot of burning, intense at first but each night it eased up. After those two weeks it stopped burning. The last time I saw my OBGYN (June) she said that the skin was responding with the area around the anus gone back to normal. However, I contribute alot of the healing to my bidet toilet seat because it reduced the irritation in the area. You should check it out. I also have adenomyosis and right now I have been spotting for 3 weeks, sometimes it lasts for 60 - 75 days. As you can imagine for me reducing/eliminating as much irritation as possible has been a priority for me.
