Burning vag

It sounds like I'm not the only one with a burning vag.  I've tried soo many products now.  Some irritate the vag more.... I"m allergic to coconut oil and Emuaid.  I really liked the Emuaid at first.  But I paid for that.   I got huge blisters and red swollen skin.  and the same with coconut oil.  So... what can I use?

Why can't doctors find the cause of this problem and cure it?  Frustrated.  I have found one thing which helps. Estrace..a plant based estrogen.

debi, what are you being told is the cause of the burning? If it is AV have you looked into the Mona Lisa laser procedure? It has worked for some that have posted on this site.

I am seeing three different doctors for this issue. My regular Gyn says it's due to repeated infections.  I wanted to do the Mona Lisa touch, but as I"m prone to infections, my other Gyn said its not a good idea. The procedure entails lasering tiny holes in vag. I can't have any further risk of infection.  Three doctors agree with that. I am due for a detailed exam for vulvodynia at Mayo Clinic in April.  I see a regular Gyn at Mayo next week.  They are all going to have a conference and decide which would be the best treatments for me.  I can't wait! Haha.  Not really.

    So what is it? Vestynuldynia?

It means pain at the vestibule of the vagina. That's the area under the smaller lips.  It's an oval shape.  Sometimes it can be provoked... (speculum) or unprovoked.. (no one knows why).   vest... vestibule... dynia: pain.  It's also just referred to as vulvodynia.  Different types.. Hope this helps.  smile

    Hi Debi!

I use Estrace cream also.. I have AV with bladder and rectal prolapse, UGH! My initial dosage was 1 gram per night for 14 days, then maintenance dose of 1 gram 2x a week. It's been approx 5 months since I started using it and for the most part I feel "normal" down there now. When I first started it I had all kinds of stuff going on due to meno dryness! Burning, itching, yeast infections, bv, everything sinking in, pressure like labor, you name it. It takes a month or so to work really well. I've since decreased my dose to 1/2 gram 2x a week and use a pea sized amount on the vulva/labia area concentrating around the urethra. Everything has plumped back up, the color came back to normal and the burning is gone and best of all my bladder is very happy. I also went to pelvic floor physical therapy to help build those muscles back up which helps with the AV. I do have a few days a month where I'm annoyed because a few mild symptoms will crop up and I'm pretty sure it's around ovulation. I had a hysterectomy in 2002, but kept my ovaries, so it's the only thing I can think of. If you've just started it, keep at it for a while and see if it helps. There's also Replens and some others that help with dryness but I'm betting you need the estrogen cream and things such as Replens is only a band-aid.  There's quite a few vaginal estrogens out there, I have a choice between the cream and a vaginal pill, Vagifem, I had leg cramps with the pill, plus I like the cream, it's soothing. Good luck and keep us posted on what your doctors come up with!

Hi Gigi. Thanks for the confirmation.  Yes I used Replens for a little while. My pelvic PT had a problem with it.. I can't remember why.  So now I use Sliquid and Yes lubes.   I'm still on the Micromidazole and will be for 6 months.  But I have been reading that antibiotics do kill good and bad bacteria so I am going to try drinking apple cider vinegar and see what that does.  Yes the symptoms are so annoying.  I get bad pain if I sit too long or don't use enough lube to keep Clara moist. (Clara= vag) cheesygrin  Oh wow, I feel bad for you. Bladder and rectal prolapse.  And yes I've been on Estrace now for 8 months. It has helped so much.  I wish the vulvodynia would get lost... but we will see.  Isn't pelvic PT great?  I was doing so well until I got another infection... Then I went back to step 1. But it's still better than before.  I hope you are doing well.  smile  And yes I'll let you know what the doctor comes up with.

Mine burns and it seems to be on fire down below with nagging lower abdominal discomfort.  I have tried Replens and it does not seem to help.  I have declined using ovestin cream.  It has been going on like that for years and it is getting worse but it is something I can put up with and is manageable. I did some tests to exclude the usual women cancer and bladder as well.  UTI and vaginal infection kept under control by taking probiotics for women.  Nearly two yrs now I have not had any infection.GP not interested and all I can do is put upwith it.

mari, do you only see a GP or a gynecologist for this issue? Specialists can be stymied by it, I wouldn't leave it up to your GP to help you (that G stands for general, don't forget). The abdominal discomfort sounds a little odd to me, but if you have been tested and cancer has been ruled out that's good. Do you use Vit E capsules? They are keeping me more or less comfortable at the moment, but in a couple of months I will see my gynecologist as I've developed a burn as well, but mine comes and goes.
