Buspar

I started taking buspirone 5mg twice a day at first I felt a little relief and then it would go away after a couple hours. My doctor recently upped my prescription to 15 mg a day and propranlol 10mg twice a day. First reaction i had was like brain zaps and vision stiffness? After an hour that went away i felt pretty good. Then i went to sleep and I woke up at 3 am, after the first full round of these doses, terribly confused with even more anxiety. The doctors put me back on my regular dose and no propranlol after my weird reaction. That was two days ago and since then I feel like I'm having a deep brain fog and I just don't feel good. My brain literally feels walled in. Has anyone experienced similar side effects on these medicines. I'm going to the doctors monday, but I am really anxious now with this brain fog and sick like feeling.

i had anxiety for years and just did not even know it...... problably medicated it myself with wine etc.

it is hard to take a benzo or something like buspar on a regular basis. i was put on an antidepressant, a low level, that has really helped with anxiety. it seems to get ahead of the obcesstion and worry that bring on the anxiety. i would try to go to a p doc rather than a GP.  a very low dose of prozac after 3 weeks made me feel so much calmer.

The unpleasent sensations you were experiencing were adjustment symptoms to the new dosage (and new med) and would have probably eased over a few days. The doctors should not have been jerking dosages back and forth. It makes it worse. The doctors should also have known better to not up the dosage AND add another drug to the mix at the same time because this way symptoms get blurred and you can't be sure what is to blame, the condition, one drug or the other or combo of both...

My advice is - get to a psychiatrist IF this was prescribed by GP. You will get much better attention there. I am guessing you had general anxiety symptoms along with palpitations? Do you have any underlying health problems specifically high blood pressure or a heart condition?

No underlying conditions Ive had anxiety for ever but I went in because I got sick about two months ago and started having panic attacks all day and night I try to control it my self but my heart rate was a resting 135 for two days straight and I felt like I was going to die and when I went in he quickly put me on anxiety medicine. But my heart is normal and my blood pressure is awesome. I still get palpitations mostly at night and he believes it to be glad. I will ask him how I can find a p doctor for my insurance on Monday. I hope they can help me find relief sad

oh yes, the brain zaps were definely from the dosage lowering.   that is so scary and doctors realy don't understand. if you were having brain zaps, that will subside. just ask your doctor to please go slow on dosing reductions. and as Purpledoberman said, get a P doc for sure.......
