Hi Lucy, I've been on buspirone and it helped, it takes time to get to work but go see your GP and ask about it, you may also need an increase in your fluoxetine, Councelling may also be an option to help you deal with your OCD.

    Hi Lucy,

Buspirone is widely viewed as an activating drug. While it certainly helps patients suffering from depression, it could make anxiety-related symptoms worse if used in monotherapy. There are better anti-anxiety medications out there (e.g. sertraline, paroxetine) and it would be beneficial if you discussed your options with a specialist. If fluoxetine does not work anymore, it is time to try something else.

    Hi Lucy,

I'm in the same boat as you. I've been struggling with anxiety myself. My situation is slightly different though in that I'm also bipolar II. I am currently on buspirone for anxiety. Its helped but not to the extent I had hoped. I'm not at the maximum dose but slowly working up. Every person is different so you may find great success with it. The nice thing is I haven't experienced any side effects.

Thank you both what worries me is all these medications state can increase sucidal thoughts and this is one of my main concerns as i already worry that at times i feel that i just dont want to live with these feelings anymore i dont want to feel suicidal 😞😞

I don't take the warnings lightly but I think that's a common warning. I've been on so many different medications and I've never had increased suicidal thoughts because of them. My anxieties are high when it comes to taking medication. Absolutely hate meds. However if you EVER have concerns about the meds you're on and how they make you feel, certainly contact your doctor right away.

Yes im going to see her this week to see what she says. So have you found a medication that your happy with? I was absolutly fine on fluoxitine for 10 years but now my over active mind causes horrendous worry that its effecting my life

Oh good. I have not yet found something effective. At least not effective to my standards. Maybe they're too high. I have to be careful with SSRIs because they can make my bipolar worse so my situation is a challenge. Fortunately there are many anti anxiety medications and many off label meds. You have lots of options so I think you'll find something good for you.

I never even considered they were to high you could be right as since my dose increased that could be making me worse. I dont really know hoe to explain myself well but i will try. when things happen such as car crashes, suicides deaths etc they realy effect me i mean to a point im in panic mode i shake so bad its like i just cant cope and its not normal surly to be so effected when the people involved are not part of my life.....its like a dpression i cant handle and dont want to be here anymore as i cant cope thinking about it and what if that happens to me i just wnat to be normal.

I really hope you find an effective relief  x

Hi Lucy, all antidepressants can increase suicidal thoughts in the inital stages of the therapy, especially these that show some residual affinity to dopamine trasporter (sertraline). However, fluoxetine comes with the same warning and you have been taking it for the past 10 years. My advice is - do not worry that much about the labels - pharmaceutical companies list each potential side effect there in order to avoid law suits. Speak to your doctor, tell him/her about your concerns and come up with a successful treatement strategy. If fluoxetine worked fine during the first few years, there is a good chance that other SSRI would be equally effective. If not you can always move to trycyclic antidepressants, so... no worries. You have many options on the table.

I have extreme anxiety as well that is ruining my life. I tried buspirone and it made me alot worse. I woke up after taking it and my whole body felt like it was burning. Everyone is different, so you might have better luck with it but based on my experience If you have health anxiety i wouldnt recommend it.
