But do I have to take conventional medicine?

it's always the same! what is it with doctors and drugs that give pharmaceutical companies money! i am fed up saying i'm in pain through 'so called' sciatica and as a result i get take this drug, it's only got all these side effects, i get the same about anti depressants - just take this my mental health is worsening as my physical health is dragging it down again. how do i see a doctor? i have coeliac scan and need a bone scan to see if this is just sciatica or something else. the other issue is assault related. what else can i try besides anti bloody depressants? i don't want drugs with side effects. anyone suggest a decent alternative and know about depression caused by coeliac disease?

Sorry you're feeling so bad but it is up to you what you take. Everything you put in your mouth has side effects, tomatoes provide vit C but aggravate my arthritis. The drugs obviously help a lot of people who put up with side effects as they appreciate the benefits. If the drug doesn't suit you stop taking it and try something else. Unfortunately there are very few magic pills providing an instant cure. Alternative medicines may not have been thoroughly tested and could be dangerous too. Join support groups and in the UK there is loads of help for mental health. Sciatica is hard to cope with - perhaps physiotherapy, have you research possibly helpful exercises. Coeliac disease is obviously very difficult as well but there must be support groups specifically for that. Good luck.

I'm sorry I cant suggest alternatives to traditional meds because it's been too long since I explored that sort of thing myself.

But I encourage you to 'go with your gut' and seek your own answers before surrendering to something you have reservations about.

thanks to the kind people who replied. my grandmother was like me she took no pills either. i took my own advice spoke to a yoga teacher who said she advised that i had maybe over done it! i have pulled back on how hard i am trying these exercises. i didn't take the tablets my bowel is finally righting itself slowly, i just don't want to worsen my bowel or stomach so i will explain to them just what i did instead.let's see what they think, it's maybe not what they want but if it heels my bowel faster then fine. i have really hang-ups about pills as i have had so many bad reactions to them over the years, including an ex who forced me to take tablets to 'save his face'! i think i'm traumatised by this.
