BVVP or Menieres

This morning just standing in the kitchen I moved from one end of the worktop to the other and wham! I spun so violently that I dropped the plate of toast I had just made. I called out to my husband to help me, then all of a sudden the spinning stopped!

I had a full ear feeling in my affected ear so I went upstairs and did the Eply manoeuvre.

It worked! The fullness eased and I felt so much better. At the moment I feel like I’m in the real world against as yesterday I felt groggy all day.

I shall try the Eply again, if need be.

About 30% of us also develop BPPV at some stage.  After 3 Epley manouevres over a 5 week period about 2 years ago I have had no more episodes. It does no harm to repeat Epley even if you are not having problems.

I am not sure whether ear fullness is regarded as a feature of BPPV so suggest you ask about this at your next consultant appointment.

Hello Janice I am so depressed right now. I woke up to the horrific spinning laid there on one side for four hours.  I do have Meaniers and I hate it.  It consumed me last year around this time for months with off balance and now the vertigo is back.  I have had this for over 25 years and still do not know how to live with it.  My question is I have it in both ears so how do I know what ear is infected or active when I get the vertigo.  I lie on one side and the vertigo stops does that mean the side  I lie on is active?  When I turned to the other side yesterday I went into vertigo...ugggg God help us all with this horrible disease.  If you know or understand my question I would love to know.

I thought I had problems! I feel for you.

I can’t answer your question but I suggest you contact your GP or hospital, if you are under them. My GP performed the Eply on me sometime ago but he too said it may not work on Menieres but we’ll try anything, won’t we, to try and ease this dreadful disease

You say things were bad this time last year. Mine first started this time of year and each year it flairs upat this time! I even considered taking antihistamine as I thought it could be seasonal!

    Hi Janice,

I was told that the Eply Maneuvor doesn't work with Menier's so I have not tried it yet but I see others are talking about it also. Thanks for posting. By the way, I take extra potassium 550mg with each meal and I think it helps modify the impact of sodium build-up.
