CA 125 of 56

Hi everyone.
I am really panicking and would appreciate any advice any of you could give me. I went to the GP on Thursday as I had been suffering with discomfort in the right side of my abdomen for about 3-4 weeks. I cant lie on that side at night in bed as it is very uncomfortable. My clothes feel tight but they are actually loose. I havent put on weight but I feel I look more fat on my right side than my left. I feel uncomfortable sometimes after eating, but more after drinking, but not always. And sometimes I feel like I can't breathe due to this tightness/bloating feeling.
The GP said she couldnt feel any lumps or bumps but that I did feel like I had more gas on the right side. She said that she would do a full blood test and check for inflammation and check my CA 125 at the same time but she wasnt worried.
I have online access to my records at the GP and I stupidly went and looked last night in case they were back. I know I should have waited until after Christmas as now I dont know how I am going to get through Christmas until the GP re-opens on Wednesday, as my CA 125 level is reported as Abnormal at 56. It says in the results that any score over 35 requires an ultrasound, but in the action box it says no further action!!!
I am shaking like a leaf with worry. My sister in law dies of ovarian cancer and it was stage 4 when it was diagnosed as her GP said it was just gas!
Any advice would be really appreciated.
thank you

Hi,
I've just posted here too. I don't know a lot about the whole CA125 score however I do know that a lot of women have had higher than average scores and they were still ok. I should add I only know this from reading on other forums. If you are that worried then do what I did. Go to A and E. I had an ultrasound and they admitted me overnight and I saw a gyno consultant within hours. I know it's Christmas Eve but I have to say the NHS were fantastic with me.

I'm ok, I feel sick a lot of the time but I think it's more with worry. I hope you have lots of support. Seriously though try not to worry too much, I know it's easier said than done but it's human instinct to think the worst. Ive read lots of posts on this forum and it has really helped.

I can understand why you are panicking. My partner Beth was diagnosed with a large mass in
her pelvic /abdominal region. We saw a gynecologist /oncologist the first week in December.
Prior to that she saw an oncologist and her CA 125 was 40, so we all thought that it was benign,
even her surgeon thought the worst scenario would be a low malignancy tumor. She had surgery this
past Monday, and the surgeon found she has ovarian cancer. We do not
know what stage it is, and she will start chemotherapy next month. I saw in
your post that your doctor has not ordered any more tests, but I am telling
you for your own piece of mind to push your doctor about this. You know
that diagnosing ovarian cancer is difficult. I am not trying to scare you, but
you have to be your own health care advocate. If you are not comfortable with your doctor's diagnosis,
then demand that more tests be done, unfortunately too many doctors don't do what's necessary.

This is a horrible thing to have to go through, my sister in law sadly died of ovarian cancer and if it had been caught earlier, things might have been very different.
I will be demanding an ultrasound as soon as the GP re-opens after Christmas.
In the meantime, i wish you both as peaceful Christmas as you can and best wishes to you both. x

Thank you Baugie. I hope you and your partner are well and had a good Christmas, despite what is going on with her. How is she and has she had any further update yet?
I had my ultrasound scan today, including the internal scan. She didnt comment on my ovaries at all but did say I had a thickened womb lining and some vascularity. She said I would like be referred to gynae for a hysteroscopy.
A bit of history: I have had a thickened lining for at least two years (when I had my first ultrasound) maybe longer. I had a polyp removed in June 2015 and I then started bleeding in November 2015 and bar a few weeks, havent stopped yet! I had another hysteroscopy in September where they removed another polyp and I started bleeding again 6 weeks after that and again havent stopped since. I can't believe I may have developed another polyp so soon!!!!
I will have to wait and see now what the GP says about my scan results on the 11th.
Wishing you both well. Do keep in touch with how you are.
x

Hope you're doing good! I recently had an ovarian mass, well ended up being adjacent to the ovary.. my CA125 level was 84, after surgery they examined it and everything came back normal. No cancer 😊 So, I would say try to relax and not over think it as there is currently nothing you can do about it, seeing as Your dr is unavailable. As soon as you can just demand a sonogram. If there is a mass they will likely remove it and examine it.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I had an ultrasound scan which came back as: right ovary ok, left ovary not visible, womb lining 17mm. i have been referred to gynae and have an appointment on Wednesday - probably will need another hysteroscopy (already had two).
But I am no longer bleeding - and havent been since the beginning of January, so hoping things are now settling down.
But the really good news is that my repeat CA125 has just come back as only being 24! I have gone down from 54 to 24 and it is now well within normal range. It looks quite likely that it was the bleeding that caused the higher result.
