Cabbage recipe wanted

Hi Morrell, this is for you. Can't find your sour kraut  recipe and would like to try it.

More for gastritis than the LP, as I have seen on line elsewhere where it helps soothe inflamed stomach linings. I am having a severe bout and tried every medicine plus the usual herbal supplements but no luck.

My diet isn't the problem as I have a hugely restricted one already so the only thing I haven't tried is the cabbage.

Thanks in advance Morrell!

I don't make my own sauerkraut. I buy it from people who do, or from the refrigerator section at the health food store. You want 'naturally fermented', nothing in it but cabbage, salt and maybe water. NO VINEGAR.

I've had tooth trouble, so have eaten no kraut for two weeks, but kefir daily. I think maybe kefir provides enough probiotics. I use 3 tbsp on my prorridge.

Thank you. Oops my spelling of sauerkraut lol

ok sorry, thought you made it but I will see if our local health food store has it! Hope your tooth trouble is better soon!

Yup, thanks. My dentist admitted that 'we know more about teeth than we used to'. In other words you are troubled by a root-canaled, crowned tooth for 20 years and dentists keep telling you it's 'just sensitive' (it's supposed to be dead!) Then finally when it really breaks down it becomes clear there must have been a hidden live channel all along. I'm happy to have a big gap where that molar was.

OMG me too, right in middle of my diagnosis last November. After years of troubles under a $3000 root canal crowned molar which had an extra fake tooth attached to it to hide a gap, he finally took it out because of the malformed nerve which hadn't been filled or whatever they do to it and it was alive!

Then of course I got a dry socket after everything was pulled out and had antibiotics for weeks ... Which gave me thrush and so on.

I quite like my gap now. When he said now we can make you a nice titanium tooth for only $7000 yes thousand, I said um, no thanks!! Bloody teeth eh.

I know! I told him I'd chew for a year with gaps on both sides and see how annoying I find it. I don't eat much meat, so I think it'll be fine, at least until I lose another. I had two brazil nuts tonight – I managed to pulverize them just fine. No harm in having to chew more mindfully – that's good for digestion!

And NOW I seem to have a mild case of shingles from the stress of the extraction. I had chicken pox at age 13, so maybe it was only a matter of time. It went straight to blistering rash in two or three small patches with no pain or fever, so I might be getting off easy. I'm going to call the dentist and tell him. I found an article written for dentists warning that with the aging poulation they'd be seeing more of this. I expected an LS flare, but knock wood, it's been ten days, so dodged that bullet,

Fingers and legs crossed for ya that you dodge a flare and the shingles is mild.

Ok, I have the sauerkraut from my health food shop and it's called green as it has no onion or chilli or anything like that. Just carrot and caraway seeds. I already love it and want to eat the whole jar but forced myself to stop at a tsp for now. Am expecting great things from this stuff as 4 visits to doc haven't helped 😢 My tummy and oesophagus . I will have another dose tonight.  Thank you

A tsp!? I eat half cup. It is expensive. But lately I've been thinking just the kefir on my oatmeal is doing the trick.

Oh, well the jar said start with one tsp and graduate to two large tblsp a day. Maybe a bit much for tummies not used to it I was guessing? Anyway I feel much better and not sure if was that or Lorazepam 1mg my doctor started me on at the same time! Ashamed to say I do still panic a bit when things go wrong now (I know they have me pegged as health anxiety now but what the hell)

I have stopped the anti anxiety tab after just 2 days and all is well with the cabbage. No pain, bloating or shakiness!

      Onward and upward!!

      That's great!!

My shingles is still mild. Only a very small rash spot and a band of nerve pain that's sort of unpleasant, but not enough to get in the way of anything. I've been reading that shingles once and for all isn't true, but it seems those who have it really bad for 30+ days are the 5% – candidates for recurrences. Fingers crossed that lets me out.

Are we twins separated at birth? Hmmmm ...

my experience of shingles was horrendous (well of course it would be says the queen of health anxiety AKA as neurotic lol) Was a rash under my armpit and I thought it was a heat rash for two days. By then was too late to take the anti viral Zovirax or Aclovar whatever, that if you take within 48 hours of the blisters appearing will help make it somewhat less painful. So the nerves followed a channel that involved my left entire breast and armpit and arm to elbow. Weeks of pain and huddling in a chair blubbing in agony, compresses  and prednisone blah blah.  Still took the anti viral drug which has to be take exactly four hourly night and day, alarm clock set at the ready. Dunno why I bothered.

Anyway a few years later I had a small op (gallbladder) and straight after the surgery I got blisters on my forehead, same side of body.  I KNEW it was shingles again and doc agreed and I was on the anti viral quick as a rat up a drainpipe. Minimal symptoms. So pleased you didn't have a full blown attack. It's not pretty.

Incidently it only effects one side of the body and if you have if on the left side and get it again it will always be on the left. If you get it on the trunk it will be as if a line has been drawn down your body and the rash won't encroach over the midline. (Had weeks to mull over these fascinating facts while confined to my couch in front of the fire)!

Yes, and my minimal attack was on the same side as my worst chicken pox blister. The weird thing was the bout of wildly itchy hives that came during the four days of active blisters. They were worse than the shingles rash, partly because I thought each one was a new shingles patch (even though I was well aware of the one-side rule). They stopped the day the blisters dried up.
