Hello!

I'm having this pain in my left calf. When i try to walk that is making me unable to walk.

This morning i was sleeping and i remember i woke up. I did a plantar flexion (pointing my feet down) and i had this sudden and horrible pain in my calf.

Now im in bed, unable to walk.

Only the right half of my left calf hurts

Thanks for reading.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem.  It has happened 2 weeks in a row.  When I put my trainers on just to go out a very short walk, My calf muscles start to ache but more so the left calf rather than the right.  I was grateful my son was with me.

Someone with more experience should be along in a short while.  In the meantime take care.      Pat

Paul, it sounds like your leg muscle has cramped.  Stretching my legs on waking as you have described often has me leaping out of bed in agony.

It can be a sign of magnesium deficiency and many people say that taking a magnesium supplement has helped them.  Also try eating bananas and apricots, anything that is high in magnesium.

If it is simple cramp, I feel that you would be better out of bed and walking around so that it gradually eases, although from experience that the worst cramps can leave a sore muscle for a couple of days.

Hi Paul. Your leg has gone into spasm. This happened to my partner a couple of years ago. He was in agony and unable to walk for a couple of days. The doctor had to do a home visit and prescribed Tramadol and Diazepam. These did the trick quite quickly. If it does,nt release itself in a few hours, I would recommend you call your surgery. In the meantime have you got a partner or someone that could gently massage your foot and ankle? That may help. Also a warm (not hot) hot water bottle under your calf. Good luck. Hope you get sorted quickly. Debbie

Hello Paul, I am of the same opinion as Mrs.O - sounds very much like cramp.  It has happened to me a few times when pointing my foot down - have had to leap out of bed quickly to get my foot back at right angles to the leg or even a little upwards.  Unfortunately if you don't catch it quickly the pain does last for a few days.
