Calories?

Hi can i ask how many calories you all try to stick to each day? My doctor told me i need to follow a low fat low calorie diet whilst on orlistat so ive been having no more that 1250 calories a day but averaging about 1000 a day and between 20-35g fat a day. Is this too little? I have lost 15Ib in around 6 weeks so its coming off but its slow although this could be because of pcos.

It depends on your starting weight and activity levels. If you go to low calorie to quick there is now where to go from there as you lose weight. The heavier you are the higher calories you need to maintain your weight, as you lose weight you need less calories to keep losing/maintain the loss. If you start off at rock bottom (1000-1200) there is no where to go from there. You have started at the bottom and will eventually plateau I think.
It is basically a crash diet. It will work for a few weeks but eventually you will find yourself starving and will binge because your body will freak out.
You can get online calculators or use an app to tell you how much to eat. My current weight/age/activity level sets be at 1600 to lose 2 lb a week.
I'd be lying if I said I don't feel the munchies at the end of the day. I do still feel a bit hungry but I know that means my body is having to use it's fat stores. That feeling is a craving trying to get you to not use up that fat. But if you are at 1000-1200 you must be absolutely gnashing everynight with hunger. Unless of course you are close to your ideal weight...but then you wouldnt be on orlistat I suppose.

Hi Isabella, think your doc should've given more guidance on what he meant by low calorie, they're not always very helpful are they! I think 1000 a day is hard to sustain health wise so yeah I agree see what MFP says. Even 1200 is too low for your current weight I think. I am currently 221 lbs and am eating around 1400-1500 cals and exercising. are you managing to exercise? The danger with fast weight loss is some of it being muscle mass so be mindful of that x

Hi isabellacarrx
I try and stick to 1500 a day and I've nearly been on the tablets 4 weeks due to get weighed on Tuesday at the doctors but from what I can tell when I got weighed at the hospital on Thursday I've lost 2 stone which I'm really pleased about x

That is a terrific weight loss, I am following the slimming world eating plan so eating lots of fruit and vegetables and fat free yogurts, I am eating around 2000 calories although with slimming world you don't count calories, I am using a food diary app which calculates the calories for you and brakes it down to carbs, fat , protein so 30 % of my food intake is fat and 30% protein and the rest carbs .
I have not lossed that much this is my 3rd week on orlistat but i don't exercise as im basically house bound and on oxygen 24/7 as well as lots of medication. The doctor said that i might not loss much due to a lot of my meds but I cant stop the meds, I am still trying to loss weight if nothing else i will be healthy eating rather than eating crisps and quick snacks im eating fruit and vegetables instead.
Well done on your weight loss i was a 130 kilograms at the start but I thought that i was 135killogramrs
I am trying not to weigh myself at home as my scales are in stone and pounds and I cant work out the difference, well I have not tried.
The doctor said that i have 3 months to loss at least 5% Off my starting weight if I don't then I will not get any more orlistat.
There are a few people on orlistat and are going to post our weight loss or gain weekly to support each other.
