Campral/Naltraxone...I'm freaking out
Posted , 9 users are following.
I have been taking Campral....and I feel like it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY with cravings...I am not even taking the prescribed dose...which was 3x a day for me and 2 pills each time.
I am taking 2 pills a day.
I have been gaining weight like crazy...so I started looking up pills that I am taking and the side effects. AND found "weight gain" is listed as a SERIOUS side effect.
I also have been more short of breath lately..and "shortness of breath" is also listed as a SERIOUS side effect.
I'm frreaking out because I think I have to stop Campral and it is helping me.
So I looked up other drugs that stop cravings and Naltraxone was one of them.
Has anyone here that has stopped drinking using Naltraxone continued to take this pill and noticed they are not craving a drink?
Joanna and Paul...if you read this....what are your thoughts on the craving aspects of Naltraxone?
I am going to call my Dr. today but it is only 7:30 here and I wanted to get this off my chest.
Also..interesting reading I copied..while researching Campral:
Patients in the European trials tended to be more severely alcohol dependent than those in the U.S. studies, and most patients in European studies had been abstinent for longer periods before starting Campral, two factors that could account for the difference in the findings, according to the NIAAA.
"We use medicines to help detoxify people, but even after detoxification occurs the neurochemistry is still not in very good balance, and probably even more importantly, when your brain thinks it's going to get alcohol, that elicits these compensatory neural changes so that the body goes through the equivalent of a little mild withdrawal, and [Campral] blocks that," Volpicelli explains.

I don't think it is anything serious..like Cancer that I always go to...but the Dr. said...it is either a bladder (fall)....or something else (I forget)...none serious...
My mother had a bladder fall...and had it surgically repaired 2x.
So it makes sense that hereditary wise..I got scr*wed with the alcoholism..this urinary problem....depression....and heart rythmn problems...LOL

Not off-topic....I did write to the Moderator and ask about off-topic...I needed clarification because I do think sometimes the off-topic discussions HELP people and I didn't say this to him....but I see alot of people who don't normally post...willing to post and reach out to someone on a post...say like this one...going totally off-topic..and it helps everyone.
So, I asked why posts off-topic were being deleted (or I asked something to that effect in that I didn't think off-topic posts were breaches of conditions and terms). The response:
I do not delete all off topic posts, if I did there wouldn't be much left in the forums. I only take action when other users report posts or if I see things are getting "out of hand" or users are starting to make personal comments as has happened several times lately in the alcohol group.
That was a horrendous experience you had...and please keep that in mind on your journey to try and stop drinking...that is REAL scary STUFF....paper.....whether we want you here...or people want you in thier real lives...YOU need to really take your story seriously

Couldn't you have chosen something more pleasant?
Stay strong. Misssy. All these drugs do affect people differently.
Clean every floor in your house tomorrow. Or come to my house and tidy up under the bed. I've been putting THAT off for two years.

If I have offended anyone, but I can't remember I have, then pm
I think most of you realise by now, I'm not stupid, I was once a successful business woman, with 3 kids doing very well in life. I do not feel that I have to use intelligent words to explain anything I have to say. I hate to repeat this over and over again, but my dr dad OBE and wow I love him said to me, treat people how you would like to be treated. Don't ever think you are better than anyone else. The most important thing in life is to help others. Never think you are superior to anyone.

I assume if the original poster asks not to go off-topic on the particular thread...we should try to respect that...but it is not against rules

I'm looking at the fish...he is moving a bit....I bought the small starter tank (without a filter.)...But, these bettas..live in puddles in Japan...so go figure...I do have AIR BUBBLES.
I had a betta for almost 2 years in a REAL tank...that tank got broken while moving it...and they are expensive...but maybe I can find a discounted one on Craigslist.
