Can a Fecal Occult Blood Test Miss Colon Cancer?

Posted , 3 users are following.

So I'm at the hospital for my shortness of breath which has been going on for 5 months.

My respiratory Dr referred me to a Gastroenterologist and he wanted my do that test.I told him my other symptoms

I've had frequent Diarrhoea and mushy stool for almost 4 weeks now. Also only have bowel movement every 3 days or so.

I'm worried that it's something serious as my dad had polyps before.

How accurate is this test?

Sorry if I'm being insensitive.

Hazwan I'm not a doctor but I would think the only sure way would be a colonoscopy with biopsies unfortunately health insurance companies dictate what has to be done first before other tests I had an upper endoscopy done and because there was no diagnosis because it all came back fine insurance wouldn't pay it doctors won't do things that are minimally invasive without other findings but be adamant that you want to be proactive but I can see the worry in your words I know its hard I am convinced I have cancer somewhere so I shouldn't give advice on worry take care of yourself and try not to worry as it can be lot of non life treating things hope you get answers soon

    Hi,

All I can tell you is the Fecal Occult Blood Test showed that my husband had rectal cancer in October 2016.

It was at an early stage and he is doing well so far.
