can a shelf pessary fall out
Posted , 4 users are following.
I had been fitted with a shelf pessary for prolapse which has been in place for about three months.Today it fell out. I am not sure whether I should contact the clinic to see about getting another fitted quickly, or leave it a few weeks. I do have an appointment at the clinic for about six weeks time. And just to update you this shelf pessary hasn't been a problem at all and it was a bit of a surprise when I felt a strange pain before it slipped out when I needed to go to toilet.
thank you

They must be able to fall out as yours did . I don't know what it means, though. I would call. Maybe they can't get you in any sooner, but it's worth checking in with them to let them know what happened and to see if they want you to try to reschedule.

I can't believe they didn't tell you what to do if it fell out. It's up to you really, if you want it put back in again ring them. Most clinics do have appointments (in the U.K.) spare to deal with this sort of thing.

Yes, this is the main problem with pessaries, its the sizing and more importantly the personalsizing thats important. Your clinic should be able to advise but get another fitted as the support is vital. You might also try EVB Sports shorts or boy shorts for day wear - they are clinically proven to support the pelvc area an extra 71% With a weak pelvic floor we all need as much support as possible. Hope this helps

thank you everyone for your comments. I knew that some pessaries can fall out, especially the ring ones, but hadn't realised that the shelf pessary could fall out which is why I sent the question. Have been away for a few days, and at the moment everything is feeling fine which is one reason why I haven't worried too much about it. But will give the clinic a ring to see if I can bring the appointment forward as feel that I will need support soon.
