Can anxiety cause head pressure??

Hello,

I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced my symptoms before. I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and really bad health anxiety so I'm freaking out. For the past few days I've been having horrible head pressure in my forehead and in the entire back of my head. Also, I have facial pressure especially in my cheeks. I've been taking ibuprofen and that's not helping at all. I don't feel like I have any sinus issues at the moment, but who knows. Could anxiety cause this? Also, I've been extremely nauseous and have some slight visual changes. I can only really describe it as maybe a little blurry and I have to squint a lot. I've kinda always had visual problems, but have gone to an eye dr and they said I'm fine. So I'm not sure if anxiety is the culprit to all of this.

The headache you describe does sound like a sinus headache

Thanks for your reply! See what gets me isn't it usually all goes away when I sleep and wake up the next morning, then it sometimes starts up again throughout the day.

Yeah could be anxiety. I've had for years, get horrid headaches at back and front of head, also pain in neck, backs, and jaw( muscle tension) as I hold myself so tense even sometimes without realising. Could be sinus or other. Ask doc again. Inruprofen doesn't help mine , doc gave me mild med to relax so I wouldn't get as tense and have as many but I won't take unless really bad . Drugs can help but too many for me just masks anxiety so I have to use small meds and push myself to relax, lots of tips here and lovely people who can reassure you??

Thanks for your reply! Ya I'm thinking it definitely could be anxiety related bc it goes away when I sleep and sometimes comes back the next day. I have loads of tension in my neck, back, and shoulders as well. Anxiety is just terrible!

It is called a tension headache. I used to have them every single day until I learned how to fix it. It's

Cause by tension in our neck and shoulders and the biggest relief for me is to always remember to keep your shoulders down. I never get them anymore

anxiety can cause all of that and you may have some sinus issues mixed in there. Anxiety starts in the brain which means when it affects the nervous system it can affect any part of her body., Including the eyes. I have had blurry vision with anxiety . It comes and goes depending on if I have anxiety. But it has not caused any problems

Yeah of course anxiety can cause head pressure. I have GAD too and get really bad pressure around the back of my eyes and head when I feel anxious, and I would take paracetamol instead of ibuprofen because ibuprofen is more for swelling and paracetamol helps with headaches more x

    Hello Amy,

Yes it can.  It was one of the early symptoms for me as i gradually developed GAD and depression.  No pain at all but very weird internal, what felt like the middle of my brain, head pressure.  It didn't last all day but brief random episodes.  Very infrequent for me but they did happen.

likewise, i have subtle blurry vision...and i only notice it looking at the time on the microwave, oven or alarm clock...anything illuminated like the power light indicator on a cell phone and so on, especially at night, will appear blurry as if i have double vision.  everything else though...no issues at all during the day or night time.  i've had all this for about a  year and 6 mos now.  i've also chosen not to medicate, yet.  i'm trying hard not to rely on meds to cure myself.  trying CBT and clean living...ie diet, sleep...daily thoughts.  anyway, good luck.

again, i had no pain with these random head pressure episodes.  they have gone away for a while now, but were certainly odd and weird.  so weird it would freak me out, but again no pain whatsoever.
