Can anxiety cause memory problems?

Posted , 9 users are following.

I'm currently freaking out. I've noticed today that my memory is awful lately. I'll go to say something, but if someone starts talking when I try to say it, I'll forget what I was saying. And when I woke up today, I thought it was Friday instead of Thursday until I remembered that it's Thursday and I'm really worried. I still have Mono which can cause brain fog, but I don't remember having this before and I can't keep myself from googling every possible cause. Now I'm worried I have MS, early stage Dementia, or Parkinsons. Have any of you had memory problems with anxiety or even after unrestful sleep?

Yes 100% Anxiety can cause memory problems, also sleep is very important for our brain to repair and refresh itself.

    Peace 🙏

Yes! Anxiety throws your body out of whack. It affects every party of your body, from your brain to your stomach to your muscles, to your skin - you name it, anxiety effects it lol. Memory issues, brain fog, confusion are all part of mental symptoms you can experience from too much anxiety.

yes yes and yes. my memory us rubbish, as is my attention span.

Yes, the reason is that anxiety causes your primal instinct part of the brain to become active and slows down your active frontal lobe (logical thinking). This is so you can react to threats like a tiger stalking you that hopefully are not present in modern life for you. Increased heart rate, stiff twitching muscles, redirected blood flow causing numbness is all so that you can run or respond quickly. Heightened sense of awareness so you can detect the imaginary tiger.

stress and anxiety can definitely cause memory forgetfulness and disorientation. ive had that happen to me numerous times. i have been suffering from anxiety for about 2 years now and among memory issues i am dealing with tons of others. just relax and slow down. that is all you can do. dont make too much of this as worrying about it will only make it worse. take a seep breath and just slowly recant your steps an you will recall what you needed to do or say. btw, do not google anything, that is the worst thing you can do to yourself. stay away from googling.

Oh yes definitely!!! I was extremely scared too when I realized how bad my memory was getting. Sometimes it bad, and sometimes its okay. Its just because your anxiety makes everything such a blurrrr.

Alle it could be your medication. I took myself off 2 of them and the brain fog disappeared.
