Can anxiety cause muscle cramps?

My husband has extremely bad leg cramps and weve been to several doctors that cant find a problem with them. Its kept him from working and  he has to take pain pills. He also has anxiety and depression and is on medication for it, the last neurologist we talked to said he thought the pain was psychological. That he should work through the pain and believe its not real. Ive seen him limp and almost hit the floor, he is not faking it. Its really damaging him mentally because he cant do what he used to do. Has anyone else experienced this?

Has he tried taking a good quality magnesium supplement? Magnesium helps me greatly with cramping, potassium is also good for cramping.Does he drink plenty of water?

Yes, hes tried magnesium and potassium both and he drinks tea all day long. I think he still takes potassium but not the magnesium any more.

It didn't happen to be magnesium oxide did it? If so that is not a good quality of magnesium. Magnesium malate and magnesium citrate are better forms and you have to keep taking it for it to build up in your system, especially if you are deficient. He should drink more water than anything else.

Thank you, we just went and got some, we will be trying these for a long time before I let him give up on them.  smile

I've found a pinch of salt desolved on the tongue every day prevents or aborts a cramp. N

Interesting, that would make sense as well. I know a lot of athletes that will eat a dill pickle before playing a game or running to prevent cramping as well.
