Can anyone give me some information on Endometrial ovarian cysts?

Hi all,
Just looking for some information really and anything that might help
Quick summary: I'm 24, I have had problems with endometriosis on and off since I was 16. I had one laporoscopy when i was 19. Ive had a lot of the same problems recently and went to see my Gynae, she did a scan and also told me to have the Mirena fitted.
I was called back into my Gynae office last week where she has told me that I have an endometrial ovarian cyst on my right side. It is just over 4cm in size and my ovary is also 4cm. The doctor has said she wants to wait another 2 months and re scan me before she does anything else.
The pain was bad before I had the Mirena fitted, but since I am in agony and bleeding everyday. Although, she didnt seem to take that on board when i tried to explain it and told me to take Neurofen. Which doesnt even take the edge off.
Over the last 9 months any time I run (i used to run maybe 1 - 2 times a week) I have been in excruciating pain and doubled over. I origninally thought it was a back or joint problem, but she said that this is not unheard off and is most likely the cyst.
After leaving her office i have some questions... If the cyst is just over 4cm and my ovary is 4cm is that not any cause for concern?
Is it normal to 'wait and see'? Has anyone else had a cyst go on its own?
After reading about exercise and cysts online, is it safe for me to continue to exercise? I've stopped the running as i simply cannot warrant the pain, but what about weights and other exercise?
Thanks in advance for any help/information!

Hello,
I'm sorry to hear you're having to go through this, I'm 30 with some similar experience to offer. 6 months ago I was diagnosed with bilateral ovarian endometriomas, both about 6cm. Most of the time they were painless, but I had intense pain with urination, and one leaked blood into my abdomen causing a lot of pain for about 10 days.
The first GYN I saw was terrible - she said I needed immediate open surgery to remove them, and I would likely be left infertile.
I was not content with this answer and went to an IVF clinic with a surgeon on staff (I live in the US, so things may be different there.) She was experienced in removing endometriomas without compromising fertility. She wanted a watch and wait approach, saying even at 6cm endometriomas don't necessarily need to come out (my ovaries were also 6cm since the endometriomas were inside them).
I had ultrasounds every 6 weeks for 6 months. One endometrioma stayed the same, the other grew to 10, and a third new endometrioma formed and was 4cm. She said endometriomas tend to shrink with pregnancy, but otherwise don't go away on their own, nor do they respond well to hormonal treatments if they're bigger than 1-2cm. She said mine was growing unusually fast, and it was time for surgery to prevent long term damage to the ovary since one was over 10cm.
I underwent laproscopic removal of all 3 endometriomas 2 weeks ago (even at over 10cm they can be removed laparoscopically by a good surgeon!)
I'm still recovering from surgery, but my ovaries are healthy, and fertility should be intact. She said the cysts may come back, but hopefully not for years.
Don't be afraid to see multiple doctors, I'd suggest finding one who specializes in fertility if you're hoping to have children in the future.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Lauren
