CAN ANYONE HELP WITH THE TRUTH BEHIND STERILISATION

Hi Ladies,

Been reading some of your posts here and been truly moved by what many of you have

said and by some of your experiences.

I hope I'm not causing offence, (that's the last thing I would want to do) but I'm a journalist and I've been asked by UK women's magazines to examine the issue of female

sterilisation and I hoped some of you might be able to help me.

I don't know if any of you are able to tell me about your experiences, whether it's the best thing you've ever done, you regret it, wish you'd done something differently.

Whatever your experience I'd be delighted to hear from you - and I would of course be more than happy to answer any queries you may have.

In the meantime, please allow me to wish you all the very best for the future.

Fiona

I was sterilised last year, at the age of 31, and having three children. 12, 9 and 1. I was recommended to take one week off work, as recovery time is estimated between 3-7 days. However, I was left in a great deal of pain on one side, and had to be signed off work for a second week by the doctor, after which I was pain-free.It has proved to be the best decision I ever made.I now suffer much less each month, whereas before, I would have been crippled up in pain. The fact that I can enjoy my love life without the threat of pregnancy is also a comfort.

    Hi Fiona,

I was sterilised at the age of 31. I have 3 children and the doctors didn't want me to do it and said it would be easier for my husband to do it. We had look at that but were put of by the higher risk of testicular cancer. I knew for certain that no matter what I never wanted to be pregnant again as I found the last pregnancy very hard going. My eldest child has cerebral palsy and required a high level of care. I have never regretted my decision to be sterilised. I love my 3 children and my family feels complete.
