Can anyone recommend an experienced surgeon for an IOL explant op.

Unfortunately 1 lens became cloudy 4 years after having MF30 lens implants in 2012, but it gets worse, I also had YAG laser treatment on both eyes 1 year later as i was experiencing "ghosting". Now I am told an explant op will be very tricky due to having the YAG treatment.
If you've had a similar problem and found a good surgeon would love to hear from you. I live in the Midlands but am prepared to travel.

Steve Safran is well known in the US for this. I have seen him and he mentioned he did them on daily basis for post-YAG patients. Although it is risky with open capsule.
did the YAG solve your ghosting? or was it due to the lens?
sorry you are having to deal with this.

Thanks for your reply. Ive been told that YAG should not be used to solve ghosting and that was certainly true in my case. The lens has opacified .

The lens is supposed yo last a life time. Were you offered any explanation as to why it opacified? Was it a faulty lens ? Seems there should be a class action lawsuit if manufacturing error. Won't help with stress of finding surgeon who is skilled to do post yap lens replacement but could compensate for expense and stress.

Thanks Sue, yes, I have solicitors on it, still waiting for compensation after 4 years

I know that can be a long process and I hope in the end you are compensated.

they have mistaken lens opacification for PCO. the PCO can also case ghosting. is the MF30 lens known to opacify?

Suggest you go onto Bupa consultant finder website. You can search for consultant by procedure, eg cataract, in your area, then click on Information for Health care professionals, and it will show you how many of what procedure x they've done in a year or something..you will be able to see lens explants here. I think stats show Bupa customers only but it will point you in the right direction hopefully. I think there is also a website called phin, but lots of Dr's don't post their info there.

+1 for Dr. Safran in New Jersey. I'm still considering my multifocal exchange after YAG (original implant was in 2007). He said my case should be "easy potatoes".

Although I still consider IOL exchange and Safran himself, I am a bit sceptical when it comes to his attitude, I mean, he is definitely a great surgeon but I don't believe that such a secondary surgery is easy or safe.
