Hi everyone I was on this forums few months ago I'm back as I really am at a loss as to where to turn. I've been to Dr numerous times. Labs was normal she said my thyroid was normal but I'm having non stop symptoms since October. It started out with bad hit flashes that was so bad they was making me nauseas those lasted three weeks just to develop hot and cold at same time nervousness jitters which I still have. To sweating my hands and feet sweeting to the point of feeling sticky hands that subsided to develop off balance dizzy woozy all day everyday I'm still doing this I also have heart palps racing heart off and on but more in them off I feel flutters weird sensations in my chest and when this starts in I feel anxiety on me out if the blue on its on. I start feeling like I can't swallow I have constant feeling like I can't breathe good don't really short of breathe but the feeling I am and taking deep breathes all day long. Now when hearts racing it's worse with the breathing. At night I'm scared to sleep my heart acts up and every sec if the day I'm scared I'm gonna die from heart attack. I've had a EKG in the er two months ago they said it was normal I know something is going on and it's all connected all of this started same time. I'm so depressed and no answers I'm tired of being told this is anxiety I know it's not all anxiety. Also if I get upset alittle it really sets the racing heart off. Please can anyone relate to any of this.

Hi Pamela, I really feel desperate for you! My symptoms were almost exactly the same as you are describing. My doctor and I both were convinced that I had an overactive thyroid because so many of the symptoms were identical to what happens in these instances but initial tests did not show any problems with the thyroid. We eventually found that I had contracted a cocksackie B virus. My regular doctor couldn't help me with this other than to say that I should do all I can to boost my immune system so that my body could fight off the virus. I went to four more doctors in desperation because I just wasn't getting over this virus and it's horrible effects. My nights were the worst as I would also have those panic awakenings and often have these weird chest contractions, palpitations and breathlessness that convinced me every night was my last. A couple of the doctors also tried to tell me I was having panic attacks but I've had those and this definitely was NOT that. Eventually I found the most amazing doctor (doctor number 6) who although was a qualified doctor had also specialised in homeopathy and natural medicines. He was my life saver! Together with him, we concluded that this virus had targeted my thyroid thus causing many of the overactive thyroid symptoms. The severe infection also then put immense strain on my adrenal glands. As the adrenal glands control so many functions in the body, this caused many different parts of my body to go haywire, including that my blood sugar would drop and cause further anxiety, and some of the dizziness. He treated me by giving me some natural meds to boost my immune system and help support my adrenal function. (This was a Withania, Rehemannia and Glycyrrhiza combo.) He also gave me a Ziziphus co. table which helped to calm the anxiety. He also told me to make sure I was eating regular meals and snacking at least every 2 - 3 hours to make sure my blood sugar didn't drop and put further strain on the adrenal glands. I was also to start eating a bit of protein with every meal or snack to help the blood sugar levels to remain stable for longer. He told me I would start feeling better within 30 days. I was very sceptical because I had already been suffering for 5 months with no relief. But he was right, there was definitely a difference over the next 30 days.

I continued with that treatment until some of the symptoms had begun to subside and he was happy that the virus was over the worst and that my adrenals were coping better. Then I just took the ziziphus as the anxiety was still present as were a few other symptoms. He added salvia tablets as well as magnesium and vit D as I was still experiencing frequent palpitations (although not the dreadful night time issues I described above.) He also made sure I was taking a high dose of mangnesium, omega 3's and a good multivitamin with all of this from the beginning. I would also go regularily for a vit B injection to help boost my system. The salvia & vit D definitely caused a reduction in the palpitations within a few weeks.

The healing process was still relatively slow (especially as nowdays with the improvements in medicine I really do expect to pop a pill and feel an immediate relief) but I can say that I did have significant improvements and was able to cope well with ordinary life again within 4 months of this treatement. The palps, anxiety, shakiness and dizziness took longer to improve and I was starting to think I was stuck with these issues for the rest of my life but it is now just over a year later and I can say that these last few symptoms have now gone too.

Whether you are suffering from a coxsackie virus like I was or purely from an overactive thyroid, I really hope this information helps you (and your doctor) to keep searching and to find exactly what is wrong with you so you can get onto the right treatement and start getting better. I wish you all the best with this!

Thank you so much hazel for replying I didn't sleep much last night cause of this chest heart flip flops and adrenaline feeling in my chest almost a constant thing now how do they check for that virus?

Hi Pamela, they do a blood test for the coxsackie virus. I have been told that the only problem with this test is that after having the virus for a while it can move out of your blood stream and just be present in the organs and then the blood test doesn't always pick it up straight away.

Just another thought to consider, when my thryoid tests didn't show any problems one of my doctors thought I could have had a pheochromocytoma (a very rare tumor of the adrenal gland) as this too can cause many of the symptoms that you have mentioned. It may be worth getting this checked out if further thyroid tests and a coxsackie test don't show anything. Initially they do a blood test and a urine test for this.

I asked my Dr if I could have adrenal tumor a couple months ago when I did all those labs she told me no she checked and she checked pituitary
