Can anyone relate to these symptoms ?

It started with having to keep clearing my throat, then indigestion type symptoms, loss of appetite and feeling suck on and off with a feeling of something pushing under my ribs on right hand side, now this feeling is worse than ever with pain between ribs and belly button on the right, if the pain goes from my side it seems to transfer to the middle of my ribs. I can’t lie on my sides or stomach at night for the pain. I have been given lansoprazole but they aren’t helping any and I’m waiting for an ultrasound. Any insight is much appreciated.

Have you had any blood work done? Pain in the upper right side can indicate gallbladder. Before I had my gallbladder removed, I felt almost flu like symptoms and pain in my right side rib cage. I ended up having gallstones which showed up on an ultrasound. However, I would ask for blood work as it should show whether or not something is going on in your GI system. Unfortunately, blood work doesn’t always show everything. I hope you feel better soon.

I have chronic pancreatitis due from Pancreas Divisum (congenital abnormality where you’re born with two pancreatic ducts that don’t fuse together). Pancreatitis pain is felt on the left side of your abdomen and will radiate to your back. It took the doctors over a year to diagnose me. I went through all the tests but it was a CT Enterography that caught atrophy of my pancreas then a MRCP that saw the Pancreas Divisum. I’ve had three ERCPs to help my symptoms. I have already had my gallbladder removed but that pain is on the right side (upper not lower). If you have pancreatitis … it would hurt after you ate and the pain in general can be debilitating. I was having acute pancreatitis attacks throughout my life but my blood never showed it because of my condition. It’s a very hard condition to diagnose.

So do you just keep going every few times to the doctors? They go off of the blood tests and scans. In my situation all of that comes back normal. but I know this pain I'm getting isn't normal. It's bad pain. Also if I keep going back the doctors shrug you off.

My symptoms started a little over a year ago. I started to vomit and then had horrible abdominal pain that radiated to my back. I went to the ER but my blood never showed anything (not in regards to the pancreas). I knew the pain I was feeling wasn’t normal and I insisted on tests from my doctor. Throughout the year I had many tests which finally found the route of the problem. I go to a pancreas specialist for the ERCPs (which is the only test that can truly look at the pancreas but it’s too risky so they perform MRCPs instead) but the GI specialist thought it was IBS at first. I also have medication induced gastroparesis which also mimics symptoms of pancreatitis. I go to the doctors every month. I have had to get an ERCP every month for the past three months to control my symptoms. I go for the fourth ERCP later this month. Each time I have an ERCP they keep me in the hospital for a week because the procedure itself can cause a pancreatitis attack. My blood has never showed pancreatitis however my liver enzymes seem to elevate when I’m having an attack. If you’re concerned you have pancreatitis then I suggest you see an actual pancreas specialist not just a GI specialist.

This sounds very similar to what I was experiencing a few weeks ago,I'd go see your g.p I'm glad I took advice and did so as I ended up being hospitalized with pneumonia,I'd been having a few similar symptoms you're describing,I'd been taking my creon as normal but noticed fat in my floating stools, right sides pain around my ribs and lower abdomen, feeling like my throat was blocked,I was pretty much sure I was having another attack of pancreitis,it was obvious something was wrong as my body wasn't absorbing food or any of my meds and my creon wasn't working as it should, hence the floating fatty stools,I certainly wasn't expecting to be told I had pneumonia and a blood infection, the respiratory consultant who looked after me for my stay in hospital explained that possibly because my body wasn't absorbing food or my regular medicines it left my immune system so weak as not to be able to fight any infection and these symptoms and floating fatty stools had been a sign that something other than my pancreatic problems were not right,I don't want to alarm you telling you this but malabsorbtion for any length of time can lead to other problems that we wouldn't be aware of,I hope it's not what I was unfortunate to have been diagnosed with and genuinely hope things soon settle down for you,but I would definitely consider a chat with your g.p or a visit to your local 24 hour primary care to see if anything can be done to relieve you of this difficult period for you,I hope you get some respite soon as having pancreatic problems myself I know how difficult and debilitating the symptoms are for all of us who have pancreatic disease, take care and I hope you start to feel easier and more comfortable soon.

Make sure the doctor tests your lipase and amylase levels which does not show in a regular CBC that you get during a routine physical. I was in the ER in 2015 thinking I was having a heart attack and that is all they tested me for and back again in 2016 with the same symptoms. Only the doctor kept me overnight and did more extensive blood work the second visit and then discovered I had Idiopathic Chronic Pancreatitus probably for years. My blood work for my physical was perfect prior to my second attack. My symptoms were a feeling of tightness around my ribs, severe pain in my left shoulder, down my left arm and my jaw. Certainly sounded like a heart attack, but wasn't. Good luck to you and I hope you have a better outcome.
